Evara walked through the front door, dropping her backpack onto the floor. The familiar scent of home enveloped her, a mix of spices and fresh flowers.

"Happy birthday, beta!" Mom exclaimed, beaming.

Evara smiled, noticing the extra sparkle in her mother's eyes.

"Thanks, Mom."

Mom handed her a glass of chilled lime juice.

"Refresh yourself, then wear the white gown. I have a surprise waiting."

Evara's curiosity piqued.

"A surprise?"

Mom's smile widened.

"Trust me, it'll be the best ever."

Evara's doubts resurfaced.

Why was Mom so happy?

Was it just birthday enthusiasm?

Or something more?

She took a sip of the juice, her eyes locked on Mom's.

"Okay, Mom. I'll get ready."

Upstairs, Evara showered and slipped into the white gown.

Simple yet elegant.

As she descended, Mom's eyes gleamed.

"Perfect."

The living room was decorated with candles and flowers.

Evara's heart quickened.

What was Mom planning?

Suddenly, the doorbell rang.

"Ah, right on time," Mom said, hurrying to answer it.

Evara's pulse raced.

Who could it be?

And what was this surprise?
