1:00 AM

Evara's pillow absorbed her tears, the fabric damp against her cheek.

She sobbed uncontrollably, her heart shattered.

"How could Mom do this?" she whispered, anguish echoing through her mind.

"I didn't expect it from her."

Betrayal stung.

Mom, her rock, her confidante.

Had sacrificed her happiness.

For what?

Social status?

Family honor?

Evara's thoughts swirled.

Marven's face flashed in her mind.

A stranger, now bound to her.

Forever.

"No, no, no," she whispered, frustration boiling.

Why hadn't Mom listened?

Why hadn't she fought?

Evara's memories replayed.

Childhood laughter with Mom.

Late-night conversations.

Shared dreams.

All tainted now.

"Mom betrayed me," Evara's voice cracked.

The words cut deep.

Self-doubt crept in.

"Was I foolish to trust her?"

Evara's tears slowed.

Exhaustion claimed her.

As she drifted into a troubled sleep, one thought lingered:

"What have I done?"
