11:33am, Saturday
"Okey dokey... let's get started." Laura muttered, looking over the small white slate she was holding.
She sat down on her knees at the head of the unintentional semi-circle Jules, Ashley and Fiona had formed on the tiled surface near the pool.
The air around the pool felt thick and warm. The wetsuit Jules was wearing only amplified the feeling, and she could feel herself sweating a little underneath the neoprene.
Jules looked over at Fiona, who was sitting to her right, her legs bent high in front of her face, the top half of her wetsuit hanging around her waist.
She looked like she was completely in control.
Jules didn't feel the same...
"So today..." Laura said, interrupting her thoughts, "You 2 will, with the aid of Fiona and myself, learn what all this stuff does..."
Jules followed her pointed finger to glance at the various pieces of dive gear sitting nearby, and felt nerves continue to build up inside her.
"Once you're both cool with how it all works, we'll get you in the pool, get underwater, swim around a bit." She summarised.
"If you're feeling unsure, or weird, please tell either Fiona or myself."
Jules watched on with slight jealousy as Laura looked at Ashley and received a sly wink in response.
Wanting reassurance, she turned to see Fiona looking at her.
Jules swallowed a little as the two of them made eye contact, her heart rate slowly but surely increasing.
"We'll see how it goes, should be fun." Laura continued.
Jules was flummoxed to see Fiona present a clenched fist towards her.
She sat in stunned silence for a couple of seconds, completely forgetting what she was thinking about...
She felt slightly ridiculous as she fist-bumped the hot girl she was... 'dating'?
Was it too soon for that label?
What were they right now?
"To be clear..." Laura's voice said, bringing Jules' mind back to the present, "After this session is completed, you will not be a qualified scuba diver. We all understand that?"
Jules nodded.
"If you like today..." Laura continued, "then you can do the Open Water course, which will qualify you to dive properly."
Jules nervously looked back at Fiona and felt her mind ease when she saw her face smile back at her.

The next 30 minutes was somewhat of a blur.
It wasn't that Jules couldn't keep up. Laura was a surprisingly good and eloquent teacher and explained things with an almost infectious sense of enthusiasm.
There was just a lot of information to convey, and Jules was almost sure she wouldn't be able to retain all of it.
Jules felt her nerves picking up slightly as she dropped into the pool. A shock rippled through her as her sweaty, wetsuit-covered body dropped into comparatively freezing water.
As she bent down and let the water level reach up to shoulders, she remembered the sensation of wearing a wetsuit in water after a decade or so.
Her body tingled as she felt the water slowly force its way through and around the neoprene to touch every corner of her skin.
