Chapter 9: Speculation

{Time-skip; Evening, Cullens household}
       (Carlisle's POV)
   After arriving home, I was bombarded with questions of what happened at the hospital and most importantly what happened with Azira at the hospital today. Taking a seat with everyone, taking Esme's hand in mine, I first told everyone the feeling I got around Azira, concluding that she definitely is our coven mate and reassuring Esme that there's a high chance Azira had a connection with her as well. Further into the conversation, the topic got more serious "At the hospital, not only did she stay with Bella for the most part but she also deflected Bella's suspicion of Edward. It came out so natural and almost too detailed.. had Edward not briefed me on what really happened before hand, even i would have fell for that explanation.", a silence falls over everyone as they process the outcome, it's not until Edward breaks that silence saying, "I didn't even notice when she got to Bella at the time. It was as if she was just a little later than me but I can't shake the feeling that her speed that time was controlled, almost deliberate..", "You're saying she purposely slowed herself down? That she may not be as human as she seems?" questioned Rosalie as she looked from Edward to everyone else, the insinuation hanging in the air, "What I'm saying is there's something more to Azira, the aura around her is a bit too.. at ease, to be natural, it also doesn't help my curiosity that I can't read her mind..", at his words, Emmett commented, "You really can't get over the mind reading thing, can you? Bro, you gotta let it go and start working on your social skills at this point." Edward shot Emmett an incredulous look, earning a snicker from the others and I patted his shoulder.

         (Narrator's POV)
   Next to raise a point was Jasper, "In a way, I can somewhat understand how Edward is feeling in this case. It's not just his mind reading, even i can't tell or feel exactly what her emotions are, it's like they're constantly changing from what I can feel yet I get the sense that that constant change is just a mask to cover up what she's really feeling, like she's actively blocking out anything that tries to get in.", silence, everyone was deep in thought all pertaining to whether this is what the little description in the book meant by things soul singers can do or could this case be more to do with Azira individually, the speculation intensifies when they look back on how Alice's vision only hinted to a coven mate but didn't expose anything about Azira specifically, something her visions have never done is conceal the identity of someone. 'Maybe she's not completely human?.. But she doesn't give off wolf vibes, she's definitely not a vampire and I highly doubt she could be a witch.. Is she really just human?' Edward looks at Alice as she has those thoughts, he too thinks back on the interaction he had with Azira at that moment of saving Bella and he speaks as he looks at the rest of his family, "It may be possible she's not entirely human, atleast not a regular human. At that moment she arrived at Bella's side just a few seconds after me, the first thing she did was knock Bella out before she could look up at me, her finger movements were so swift and precise that any other person would have missed it completely. Not to mention her demeanor, she was so.. calm, too calm for someone who acted on impulse to save someone on an adrenaline rush, her eyes almost seemed.. bored as she sat there holding Bella, she didn't even look phased by me or the fact I still had my hand on the side of the van with a dent.. it's almost like.." trailing off his words, Rosalie finished his sentence while looking directly at him, "She knew you weren't human." the gears turned in everyone's mind at that statement, the observations and analysis hinting strongly to this possibility.

   With that conclusion in mind, it begs the question how and why would Azira know of Edward and undoubtedly the rest of them, and yet not react much to that knowledge? One would expect fear, shock, suspicion even confusion to finding something like that out yet she didn't even seem interested in the slightest, "I say we approach her directly and talk it out," suggests Emmett as he looks around at everyone else for other opinions, some of them seem to really consider this idea until Rosalie speaks up against the suggestion, "And what if there's a chance that she doesn't know anything? What if she was so shocked she looked unphased cause she literally couldn't react in that situation? No hard feelings, babe, but isn't that idea a bit risky?" the others considered Rosalie's statements, finding reasonable points in them but then Edward spoke, "That would be the case if it ended at that moment with the almost accident but those points are ruled out by the way Carlisle said she behaved at the hospital, not only was she calm but she even went as far as to smoothly twist the scenario of events in Bella's suspicion. Not to mention she intentionally rendered Bella unconscious the moment she got to her and what's more, before Bella could see it was me, that's two much for a mere act of shock." at this analysis, Rosalie remains quiet but somewhat frustrated, Emmett pulls her into his side for comfort while the others give her sympathetic smiles, understanding her reluctance to the possibility of getting Azira involved in their world. Jasper then suggests, "How about we observe her first for the next few weeks before doing anything impulsively? Though Edward has a point, I think the perspective Rosalie is coming from also holds its validation. Just because Azira might know we aren't human doesn't necessarily give us the grounds to directly approach her out of nowhere, maybe we should try and get familiar with her first before taking any major actions.", "Jasper's right, even if Azira may or may not know about us in detail, it doesn't change the fact that we're still strangers to her, approaching her out of the blue might warrant a negative reaction from her regardless of our intentions and that's an outcome im certain we all don't want, right?" Alice says as she looks around at everyone else, garnering nods and hums of agreement. "Then it's settled, we'll observe and try getting closer with Azira before exposing anything to her." Says Emmett with an obviously excited tone, the other Cullen kids feeling a similar giddiness at the thought of getting to know their soul singer, even Rosalie can't deny the curiosity, it's only the two Cullens parents who lament helplessly at not being able to interact much with her unlike the others, earning a chuckle of amusement from the others.
