"What's that?" Mike asked as he saw Taylor bring a backpack into the graveyard. Not insulated for the kids, but it wasn't matching with Tyler's. So it must've been something different.
Taylor grinned apologetically. "Ah sorry! It's ok if I bring this in here right? It's a project for mechanics club I haven't finished yet."

"Mechanics? Nice. So you're into cars and stuff?" Mike asked.
Taylor had to bite her tongue. While it was true that yes, mechanics did include cars, that wasn't all what it was about! It was also about things like construction, machine and tool operation, not just cars! How does anybody think the moon buggy got made? Certainly not with engineering alone. It was always a pet peeve of Taylor's, to hear it just applied to cars.
Instead, she put on her best smile, not wanting to be rude. They needed the lessons after all.
"Yeah. Cars and stuff."

Mike nodded. "You can put it on one of the tires. What is it that you made anyways?"
"Ah, we're working on making little buggies. Like the one on the moon and stuff?" Taylor said.
"That's actually really cool," Mike chuckled. "Do you wanna work with it when you're older?"
"Yeah, actually! I'd love to." Taylor grinned. She always wanted to work with mechanics. And it helped that her club had job opportunities.
"What got you into it?" Mike asked, genuinely curious.
"Ah, whenever our car broke down my Sad would usually be the one to fix it, and I would always watch him when he did it. When I got a bit older he started to let me help. It was really fun!" Taylor smiled at the memory.

Taylor remembered those days with her dad well. They were some of the happiest moments of her life, sitting on a big old black step stool watching as her dad, covered head to toe in grease and oil, tried to fix it. He would always joke with the tools, the two of them having mini 'sword fights' with them. Which in retrospect, might've not been the safest thing. But her dad was careful. He always was. And no matter how many times they tried to stay tidy, they would always end up staining their clothes and end up covered in grease. They would laugh about it, and Taylor would try not to laugh as her mom chewed her dad out for getting Taylor messy again.

"¡Tú sabes mejor!" She would snap playfully, and a bit annoyed(not that Taylor could blame her) at him. He would always apologize to her though, and make her favorite meal for dinner. She would forgive before the twins even went to bed.

Of course, now a days she was much better at fixing their car. Whenever it broke down, Taylor was the one to fix it. And she did it well, they hadn't needed to go to an auto repair shop in almost two years.

But she fixed it alone now.

Taylor took a deep breath, trying not to let a new swirl of emotions overtake her. She sat down next to Logan as their lesson with Emma began. Emma was fierce, and reminded Taylor a lot of what their mom used to be like before her father's passing. It was clear to her Logan and Emma were close, the way they teased each other had her laughing.

"I'm just saying mom," Logan quipped, testing the waters to make sure he wouldn't get his ass kicked in training (Again). "Are you really sure you of all people should be showing us how to do these high kicks? Maybe get Ashlyn? You're getting a little...up there in years. Might wanna rest so you don't break a fragile hip."

Taylor nearly choked on her spit, covering her mouth so Emma wouldn't see her laughing. He did not just say that! Emma scowled at him, a playful glare on her face.
"Ok Mr. Bedwetter till I was nine, why don't you show me how to do it instead?" Emma teased.
"Daaaaaaamn! Exposed." Aiden joked, not bothering to hide his laughs.
Logan turned beet red. "MOOOOOOOOM! You swore we'd never speak of that again!" He shrieked, his voice cracking and reaching decibels no human should ever be capable of. Ashlyn covered her ears, wincing.
"Jesus Christ mom I said I wanted a dog not a dogs squeaky toy. And not even one of the fun ones! This one's boring as hell." She quipped from her side of the graveyard.
Logan glared at her, cheeks flushed as Mike and the others laughed. "Bullies all of you..."

Emma laughed unapologetically. "Hey you started it! Don't get mad when it gets thrown right back!"
"Uggggh! You suck..!" Logan muttered.
Taylor laughed. "Soo...do you have any more embarrassing stories about him?"
"I mean there was this one time—" Emma started.
"MOM!"

They laughed. Taylor felt warm in her chest as she looked around at all of them, all of them smiling and laughing with each other. Even Tyler was.

Sure. She had lost part of herself when her dad died. It had a left a wide whole in her heart. But maybe, just maybe...

This silly little group of theirs was starting to repair it.
