"Wait, this makes no sense," Tyler grumbled, pinching the skin between his eyes. "You all have been seeing the phantoms too? Since when?"
"Since you all started the lessons," Mike said.
"That doesn't make sense.." Taylor protested weakly, holding her brother's hand.

They sat in chairs off to the side, away from the other parents. After Mike and Ashlyn had burst through the doors, saying they needed to talk, they huddled over here.
Although, none of them were ready for this conversation. They were all to preoccupied with Logan. Would he live? That was a question that had plagued all their minds.

"How can they be seeing it if they didn't go to Savannah?" Taylor asked.

Emma let out a weary sigh, so tired from the days events and the emotional toll. And it was only going to get worse. "We...we can worry about that later. Right now, we should try and figure out what to do about Logan."

Mike hummed, lost in thought. "If I understand correctly, if we get some supplies and drop them off where you all last left off, you'll be able to reach them?"

Ben nodded. The first time he really did anything but cry since Logan had been admitted. Mike nodded back.
"Right. Come on Ashlyn, we can head to town. We'll get supplies you all need."

"No."

Ashlyn's response was quick and firm. No, no way. She knew logically she needed to go, it wouldn't be fair to the others if she didn't go. If she didn't get those supplies. But she didn't care right now. She wanted to be there for Logan. Just in case he...no. When he woke up. Can you blame her for being selfish?
Mike frowned. "Ashlyn—"

"I'll go," Aidens voice cut in. "I can explain it to my parents later, say I forgot something at your house. But we shouldn't make Ashlyn go if she doesn't want to."

"I second that," Ben's phone cut in. "I think Ashlyn should stay here. Just in case anything happens. I'll go too."

"W-we will as well!" Taylor said, standing up on wobbly legs. Tyler nodded in agreement. Of course they would go.

Ashlyn suddenly felt very overwhelmed. Overwhelmed by their kindness, their willingness to be there for her, just as she was for them. It's like Taylor had said, wasn't it? They were a team. They worked together.

When the leader fell, the others stepped up.

Mike sighed. "I can't take all of you. Your parents will panic."

"Then just take me," Aiden said. "Ashlyn can text me what we need, and I'll bring it. I promise."

Ashlyn looked at Aiden, shooting him a grateful look. Not wanting to dwell on it any longer, Mike nodded. "Alright. Come on then."

"Keep me updated!" Aiden called back towards him as he and Mike left.

Emma sighed, watching them go off. One problem after the next, she had no idea the situation was this serious. But now that she did, she couldn't ignore it. She had to take it seriously too. She had to protect them. That was a mother's job after all.

But hadn't she already failed her son?

Emma shook that thought away. "Come on," she said to the others. "Help me convince the other parents of what's going on."

Taylor let out a weary sigh. "This...isn't going to be easy."

"Mikeeee, Buddy. Buddy on earth, Buddy I love." Mike's friend, Jacob said as he eyed the pile of guns, weapons, and first aid kits Mike and some blonde kid he had never seen before piled on the counter. "Uh...what are you going to do with all of this??"
Mike sighed, pulling out his card. "I'll tell you later Jacob. Just ring me up,"
Besides him, the blonde kid nodded. Jacob squinted, slightly worried for Mikes mental health, but he rang him up anyways. "You better have a damn good explanation for this one Mike,"
"He will!" The blonde kid said, rubbing out with the bags behind Mike.

Jacob watched them get into the car and speed off. Jesus. Should he call the police or something?

Nah. It was Mike. Nothing bad about it. Right..?

...Maybe a wellness check wouldn't hurt.

"And you guys said you ended up at a gas station by the school?" Mike asked Aiden as he sped down the road, going as fast as the speed limit would let him.
Aiden nodded. "Right,"
Mike eyed Aiden. In the few months he had known him, he had never seen the boy look so serious. But he couldn't blame him. Trauma did that to a person.

But to a child? They acted more like soldiers than they did children at times. It broke Mikes heart honestly. But he sped on anyways. There was no time to dwell on it.

"Where'd Mary and James go?" Emma asked as they came back to the waiting room. The older couple was no where in sight, and it made Emma a little concerned. But she put a pin in that thought for now.
Ashlyn, the twins, and Ben followed behind her, like ducklings following their mother. They all seemed tense, scared. Emma couldn't blame them. This wasn't an easy thing to tell anyone.
"They couldn't stay," Jessica said. She looked around. "Where's Aiden?"

"He asked Mike to drive him back to the house. He said he forgot something." Emma covered up. She sighed, taking a deep breath.
"What's wrong?" Naomi asked, sensing the tension. She passed Lily to William, standing up to face Emma better.

Surprisingly, Tyler was the first to speak up. "We have something to tell you."
Marianna looked at him, concerned. "Hijo, Qué pasa? Is everything alright?"
Tyler took a deep breath. "Well...."
