The following morning, Freen stood by her kitchen window, watching the sun rise over the city. Despite the warmth of the light, she felt a chill of uncertainty wash over her. The thoughts of Non lingered in her mind, but she had made a decision. For Becky's safety, she wouldn't mention the accusations—at least not yet. Telling her might only serve to worry her and create unnecessary tension. As she prepared for the day, Freen's mind flickered back to her university days, particularly her final year when she had first met Becky. She remembered the bright-eyed girl who had joined their architecture program, her passion and talent evident from the very beginning. Freen had been drawn to her instantly, but she also remembered the shadows of her past—the complicated feelings of others.
Later that morning, Freen arrived at Chankimha Group's office, greeted by the usual hustle and bustle of her team. Today, they had a crucial meeting with a potential partner that Freen was both excited and anxious about. As she gathered her materials, she was interrupted by Heng.
"Freen, have you heard? Nita's coming today as a representative from Apex Solutions," Heng said, his voice laced with concern.
Freen's stomach sank at the mention of Nita's name. "Nita? I thought she was done with architecture."
"Apparently not. She's back and wants to partner with us for the new project," Heng explained.
Freen felt a mixture of dread and annoyance. Nita had always been obsessed with her, a friendship that had soured after Nita confessed her feelings and Freen had to firmly reject her. Since that day, their relationship had deteriorated, leading to an awkward and uncomfortable tension whenever they were in the same room.
The meeting began, and Freen tried to focus, reminding herself that this was a professional environment. When Nita entered the room, Freen felt her heart race—both from anxiety and the memories that flooded back. Nita was as beautiful as ever, with her confident demeanor and striking presence. But it was her gaze that unnerved Freen. Nita looked at her with a mix of longing and determination, a look that had once made Freen feel trapped.
As the meeting progressed, Becky entered the room just as Nita handed Freen a file. Freen noticed the flash of recognition in Becky's eyes, followed by an unmistakable spark of jealousy. Nita, with a sly smile, leaned a little closer than necessary, brushing her fingers against Freen's hand as she passed the documents. Freen recoiled slightly, avoiding the contact, but Nita didn't seem to take the hint.
"Freen, I'm really looking forward to collaborating with you," Nita said, her tone flirtatious and suggestive.
Freen maintained her composure, redirecting her gaze to the project details laid out on the table. "Yes, let's focus on the project," she replied firmly, hoping to defuse the tension.
Becky, standing slightly to the side, felt a surge of protectiveness mixed with jealousy as she watched Nita's every move. She clenched her fists, glaring at Nita's hand lingering near Freen's. The warmth between Freen and Becky felt distant, as Nita's presence cast a shadow over their connection.
When the meeting concluded, Freen noticed the shift in Becky's demeanor. "Are you okay?" she asked, trying to catch Becky's eye.
Becky didn't respond immediately, her focus still on Nita. "Just peachy," she said tersely, her voice cool.
Freen took a step closer, but Becky's gaze remained fixated on her hand where Nita had touched her. "Becky, it's not what it looks like. I—"
"Really? Because it looked like she was trying to claim you right in front of me," Becky interrupted, her tone sharper than she intended.
"I promise, it's nothing. Nita is just trying to be professional," Freen said, feeling a knot tighten in her stomach. "I won't let her cross any lines."
"Sure," Becky replied, crossing her arms, her expression hardening. The jealousy simmered beneath the surface, and Freen could see it clearly now.
The tension hung in the air like a storm cloud, and Freen felt helpless. She didn't want to hurt Becky, but she also needed to handle Nita delicately, knowing the potential ramifications. With a deep breath, she decided to confront Nita later about her behavior.
As they left the meeting room, Freen noticed Becky still glaring at her hand, the jealousy evident in her eyes. Freen felt a pang of regret. She never wanted to make Becky feel insecure, and now, with the shadow of Nita looming over them, she knew she had to act fast.
"Becky," Freen called softly, reaching for her arm. "I'm really sorry if I upset you. It wasn't my intention."
Becky turned to face her, her expression still guarded. "I just don't want to lose you to someone like her, Freen."
Freen's heart sank, and she stepped closer, determined to reassure her. "You won't lose me. I promise. You're everything to me."
But even as she spoke those words, Freen couldn't shake the feeling of uncertainty creeping back in. With Nita in the picture, the complications of the past were resurfacing, and Freen knew she had to find a way to protect what she and Becky had built together—before it slipped away.
So what do you think?
