Nita stormed into Non's apartment, anger radiating from her as she slammed the door behind her. Non barely glanced at her before speaking in a low voice, "I warned you, Nita."
Nita paced back and forth in front of him, her frustration growing. "I thought I could handle her! Becky ruined everything. She barged in just when I was about to get to Freen."
Non sighed, rubbing his temples. He had told her time and time again that going after Freen was pointless. "Becky isn't someone you can just sideline, Nita. She's fiercely protective of Freen, and honestly, you don't stand a chance. You should have stayed out of it."
Nita sneered, "You don't know what it's like. Freen was supposed to be mine! If it weren't for Becky, I'd have her."
Non shook his head, remembering why he stopped pursuing Freen himself. His own experiences had taught him that some battles weren't worth fighting. After Nita left, he sat down on the couch, lost in thought.
He thought back to why he had been forced to pull back. A few weeks ago, he had run into one of Saint's friends at a bar. The encounter had been eye-opening. Saint, Freen's cousin, had a reputation that preceded him—ruthless, cold, and deadly when it came to protecting the people he cared about. When Non found out that Saint was Freen's cousin, everything had clicked into place. Saint would go to any lengths to protect Freen, and Non knew he wasn't in a position to go up against someone like that.
Even his father had warned him. "Stay away from Freen, son. She's not someone you can mess with." His father's words echoed in his head, but it wasn't just Freen who posed a problem. The memories of his past were another reason he couldn't pursue her.
Non had learned his lesson the hard way, during the darkest chapter of his life. The night his friends drugged him still haunted him. They had given him something he hadn't realized, and he ended up doing something he could never take back. He had assaulted his own girlfriend, the woman he loved, because she had refused to be intimate with him. The shame and guilt tore at him every day, but it was nothing compared to the pain of knowing he had hurt the person he cared about the most.
That was when everything changed. His girlfriend had left him, and the accusations followed. His name had been dragged through the mud, and his reputation destroyed. He had tried to move on, to forget, but he couldn't. Becky had become his escape, a way to fill the emptiness inside him. But even then, he couldn't bring himself to love her the way he thought he should.
Non exhaled deeply, running his hands through his hair. He didn't know why he had threatened Freen about Becky. Maybe it was frustration, jealousy, or his own inability to move on from the past. But one thing was clear—Freen and Becky weren't safe. And it wasn't just Nita they had to worry about.
There was someone else—someone dangerous. A man who had been obsessed with Freen for a long time, someone Non had crossed paths with before. He feared that if this man got involved, Becky's life could be in danger, and despite everything, Becky was still his childhood friend. He couldn't let her get hurt.
As he recalled his recent conversation with his father, Non's chest tightened. His father had scolded him severely after finding out about his threats to Freen. "You need to fix this before it gets worse, Non. You can't keep making enemies."
On the other side of town, Heng was having a conversation with Saint. They were discussing Non's sudden retreat from the situation.
"So, Non's out of the way now?" Heng asked, his voice calm but curious.
Saint nodded, leaning back in his chair. "Yeah, for now. Billy had a little chat with him and his father, and it seems like they've backed off. But there's more going on than we realize."
"What do you mean?" Heng's eyes narrowed.
Saint's expression darkened. "I saw something suspicious outside Freen's office. A black SUV parked there for hours, no one getting in or out. I don't know who it belongs to, but it's not one of ours. We need to keep an eye on it. Whoever it is, they're watching."
Heng nodded in agreement. "We'll figure out who it is. But if there's someone else in the picture, we need to act fast."
As they planned their next steps, unaware of the looming threats, Freen was in the kitchen, focused on preparing breakfast in the early morning. She hummed softly to herself, completely unaware of the turmoil brewing outside.
Becky, who had woken up to an empty bed, pouted as she searched the apartment for Freen. When she found her in the kitchen, Becky snuck up behind her and wrapped her arms around Freen's waist, resting her head on Freen's back.
"Morning," Becky whispered, her voice still thick with sleep.
Freen smiled, turning her head slightly to look at her. "Good morning. Sleep well?"
"I did, but I woke up without you next to me," Becky pouted, tightening her hold on Freen. "I'm going to need a morning kiss to make up for it."
Freen chuckled and turned around, cupping Becky's face as she leaned in. Their lips met in a soft, tender kiss, but it didn't take long for the kiss to deepen. Hands started wandering, exploring familiar places. Freen found herself unbuttoning Becky's shirt, her own heart racing as their kisses grew more heated.
Becky moaned softly against Freen's lips, her hands slipping under Freen's nightshirt, feeling the warmth of her skin. They moved towards the couch, with Becky gently pushing Freen down and straddling her lap.
"Do you know how much I hate when someone else touches you?" Becky murmured against Freen's lips before diving back in for another kiss, her words fueled by a mix of jealousy and desire.
"I hate it too," Freen managed to stutter out, her mind hazy from Becky's kisses. "I don't want anyone else but you."
They continued their passionate makeout session, Freen's hands finding their way to Becky's back, unclasping her bra when—
The door flew open with a loud bang, and Freen's friends Nam, Noey, and Kate barged in. Freen immediately grabbed Becky, pulling her close to shield her from view.
Nam raised an eyebrow and gave Freen a knowing look. "Did we interrupt something?"
Becky quickly excused herself, tugging her shirt back on as she scurried off to the bathroom. Freen shot a glare at her friends, who were all grinning at the awkward situation they had walked in on.
"Could you knock next time?" Freen muttered, crossing her arms in frustration.
Nam smirked. "Next time, maybe don't have your morning makeout session in the living room."
Freen rolled her eyes but couldn't help the smile tugging at her lips as her friends teased her. Despite the danger lurking in the shadows, moments like these made her feel grounded, loved, and protected.
But outside their bubble of laughter, the world was watching, waiting for the right moment to strike.
