Lucy's POV

I never exactly intended to kill him....
Not exactly.....

I was a naive 14 year old girl who was being abused by her parents and sexually assaulted by their friends. I was my parents cash cow for lack of a better term.

Their friends would pay for pictures of me, a child, naked and in suggestive poses. They rarely ever actually came over. But by the time I was 10, they were coming over more often. My parents were always saying how it would be my 18th birthday when they would finally rape me.

But one day, when I was 14, Thomas got a little to eager. Said that my parents didn't have to know. That it would just be between me and him. Apparently his wife didn't satisfy him enough. Obviously I pushed him off.

I guess I pushed him.... harder than anticipated. He hit his head on the corner of the countertop. I could see he was unconscious, bleeding out. And I let him.

I watched and made sure he was dead before calling my parents in. They buried him under the cherry tree in the garden of that house and told no one. They still live there.

Sometimes when my friends would come over we would have picnics right there, on top of his bones. That was why they hated me becoming a cop so much. They didn't want me to tell anyone. And I haven't. Not a soul.

I started to slow down my breathing. Emmet had tried to get me to move in with them. I didn't want to go back. I left at 17 for a reason. I vowed I would never go back to that hell hole. I keep my promises.

I started typing a message back. 'hi mum, dad. Sorry I was so rude before. I'll move in, I promise. But please keep your friends away this time. I don't want a repeat of Thomas. Please.'
I knew there was a very low chance it would actually convince them. When did they ever care about my feelings? When I was naked with bruises covering my body forced to give my parents friends handjobs? Not then. So why would they care now. Oh yeah. They didn't.

I heard the ping of a message.
'you don't really have anything to bargain with now do you Luce? Now as agreed, see you next week'

I hated that there was nothing I could do. If I refused then my parents would end my career, even if they could convict me, accused of murder is enough to end the career of most officers, especially if they just graduated to P2 like I would on Monday.

The next few days passed in a blur, working coming home to Tim. I couldn't bare to tell him that I was leaving to live with my parents. I would tell him later.
That's what I had telling myself for six days. Six days had passed like this. I was internally dying but hadn't told a soul. I would move in the next day.

On shift
"7-adam-19 robbery in progress at 183 17th street"
"7-adam-19 show up responding, 3 minutes out" I responded quickly and we sped towards the robbery.
Angela was riding with me and I turned on the lights and sirens as she drove and sped through LA afternoon traffic.
As we arrived we saw some people running out the shop as gunshots were heard.
I immediately drew my gun, ducking and walking into the shop.

I heard the thief arguing with the shopkeeper and I hear the click of a gun loading. I leant round the corner and saw the gun pointed at the shopkeepers head. The girl looked 17 at most and was clearly terrified.
She was packing money from the cash register into the guys bag while the gun was pressed to her head. If I scared him he would shoot her. I needed to calm the entire situation down.
"Hey sir?"
I lowered my gun, he turned his to me.
"Who the hell are you?!"
"I'm officer Chen of the LAPD. I need you to let this woman go please."
"Why the hell would I do that?!'
"Take me instead, she doesn't deserve this"
"Ugh fine" he pushed the girl out the way and she gratefully ran out of the shop.
I felt the cold barrel of the gun pressed against my stomach.
"You continue loading up the bag"
I did as he said, looking over and realising he had looked away I pulled out my gun.
Just then he turned back to face me, seeing the gun in my hand he panicked and I felt a sharp pain in my shoulder. I fired into his leg, kicked him over and put my handcuffs on him. Watching while Angela dragged him out and put him in the bag of the shop.

I got up. Then everything went black.

Tim's POV

I was listening to the radio to see if any new cases needed me while I was just driving around on my own. "7-adam-19 suspect in custody but Officer Chen down. I repeat officer down"

I practically flew over to the scene. Lucy was down. How bad was it?
I got out the car, seeing an ambulance.
Only one ambulance, that meant not that many people got hurt.
I saw Ange and ran over to her.
"Hey what happened to Lucy? Heard she was down over the radio"
"She'll be fine hopefully, shot in the chest, lots of blood loss. Luckily they don't think it hit any major organs. She's unconscious in an ambulance, they just left to take her to hospital."
I breathed out a breath I didn't know I was holding. Lucy would be mostly ok.
"What happened?"
"She went in, bargained herself as a hostage instead of the cashier"
Angela pointed towards a teen girl sitting next to the ambulance, clearly shaken.
"Then the guy shot her, she shot him back and now he's going to jail"
Wow. Lucy offered herself as a hostage?
That was either incredibly brave or ridiculously stupid. I couldn't yet tell.

At the hospital

Lucy's POV

The ride in the ambulance was quick. I faded in and out of consciousness, apparently I had been shot just above the lung. That was lucky. I lost a lot of blood but the bullet didn't hit any major arteries so the surgery would most probably go well.

I next woke up in the hospital, the doctors had to wake me to make sure that the anesthetic would work. Sure enough about ten seconds later I was out like a light.

Tim's POV

By the time my shift ended Lucy was out of surgery. She was ok but was still unconscious. Luckily the bullet could be fully extracted. I thought back to when Lucy was in the hospital before. When she looked so bruised and small. Now she looked more sure of herself, filling out her frame. Some of the scars were still there, but she seemed better.

I walked out into the waiting room. Tomorrow was meant to be their last day as rookies, now Lucy was going to need a few more days. Lucy's parents sat there, they looked remarkably similar.
"Um hi" I smiled politely at them and they didn't even bother looking up from their phones.
I coughed. "Good afternoon Mr and Mrs Chen."
Finally they looked up, saw that I want a doctor and looked back down to their phones. Then Mr Chen got up and walked away on a phone call. Mrs Chen started furiously typing. Then she took took a phone call. "Yes, I know. I just need to check she's alive then I'll continue with your session. Yes I know. Yes. Sure. Bye now" she hung up.
I knew Lucy's parents were workaholics but wow, their daughter had been shot and they were just checking she was alive before going back to work. Mr Chen came back a minute later.
"Darling I need to go, I forgot my pen at the office and I need it to sign some documents"
I interrupted the conversation.
"Can't you use any pen?"
The Chens looked at me like I had just killed someone.
"No, I refuse to use anything but my pen"
I knew Lucy didn't have the best relationship with her parents, now I understood why. They acted like spoiled children. It's a wonder Lucy turned out the way she did.
