I look around holding the picture to my chest tightly. I noticed out of the corner of my eye the security guards coming onto the stage. I accidentally bumped the microphone and grabbed it. I winced at the feedback from it. My breathing was getting heavier while I looked around.
"Sing! Sing!" I saw Miguel on the other side of the stage.
My attention was drawn back to the security guards climbing up the stairs slowly. I compose myself and take the microphone into my hands. "Ay, de mí, llorona" making the guards freeze. "Llorona de azul celeste" I heard a guitar join. "Ay, de mí, llorona" I looked over and saw Hector holding Maria while...Manuel played a guitar. "Llorona de azul celeste" I noticed security getting closer, so I popped the microphone off the stand and I started to walk to the opposite steps.
I picked up my dress as I ascended down the steps. "Y aunque la vida me cueste llorona" I made eye contact with my husband. Hector gave me a thumbs up. "No dejaré de quererte" I smile gently. "No dejaré de quererte"
I get down to the bottom of the stage. "Me subí al pino más alto llorona" Each time a guard tried to grab the photo I spun away. "A ver si te divisaba" I kept evading them and even slapped one of the guards hand. "Como el pino era tierno, llorona" I was looking at my husband once again with nervous eyes. "Al verme llorar, lloraba" I start to head in his direction. "Ay, de mí, llorona, llorona" I doge on guard who flew at me. "Llorona de azul celeste" I almost made it when Ernesta grabbed my arm. "Ay, de mí, llorona, llorona" We sing together. "Llorona de azul celeste" The cheers started to erupt. Ernesta suddenly dips me and I hold the photo away. "Y aunque la vida me cueste, llorona" I slip away and try to run when she picks me up and starts to spin me in the air. What woman is THIS strong? "No dejaré de quererte" The crowd was clapping in time with our signing. "Let go of me!" I cry out. "Y aunque la vida me cueste llorona" Ernesta sings. I try to get away but she keeps stopping me. "No dejaré de quererte" Next thing I knew we were dancing together. "No dejaré de quererte" She grabbed the photo and held me tightly. "No dejaré de quererte" I glared and tried to think quickly. I pull up my dress just enough. "Ay, ay, ay, ¡a-jajaja!" She cried out when I stomped on her foot. I grabbed the picture and ran off stage.
I run into Manuel's arms and we're both laughing. We both pull away awkwardly realizing what had just happened. "I forgot what that felt like." I tuck a piece of h/c behind my ear. "You still got it." Manuel smiles at me.
Miguel clears his throat. "Oh! Here." I hand him the photo while Manuel takes the petal. Hector hands me Maria who giggles.
"Miguel, I give you my blessing." the petal starts to glow. "To go home, to put up our photos and to never-"
"Never play music again." The boy mutters dejectedly.
Manuel gives him a look. "To never forget how much your family loves you." He finishes. His eyes lit up and I placed a hand on Manuels shoulder. "You're going home." I smile.
Miguel was about to take the petal...suddenly he was yanked in the air. "You're not going anywhere!" Ernesta growls. I charge at Ernesta but she pushes me to the ground. I protect Maria from the fall, in which she starts to cry. "Y/n!" Manuel runs over to help me. I looked at him and then my e/c were filled with rage as I looked at Ernesta.
Enesta starts to drag Miguel away. "Stay back! All of you stay back! Not one more step." We all start to corner Ernesta on the edge of the backstage. Dante flies in and grabs Miguel's pant leg. "Dante!" Miguel exclaims. Ernesta threw Miguel.
"Ernesta! Leave my great grandson alone!" I cried out and felt my body glow and start to shake. Hector and I fell to the ground while I held Maria. Her crying started to get louder. "Please, leave the boy alone." Hector begs. "I've worked too hard, Hector, y/n. Too hard to let him destroy everything."
"He's a living boy." I defend. "He's a threat!" Ernesta points at Miguel. "You think I'd let him go back to the land of the living with your photo? To keep your memories alive? No."
"You're a coward!" Miguel shouts. Ernedsta turns her attention to the boy. "I am Ernesta de la Cruz. The greatest musician of all time!" She glares down at him. "Y/n and Hector are the real musicians! You're just the guy who murdered them and stole Y/n's songs!" Ernesta grabs Miguel by the collar. "I am the one who's willing to do what it takes to seize my moment. Whatever. It. Takes." She throws Miguel off the cliff.
"NO!" I scream. The other all ran to the edge to look over. "Miguel!"
Ernesta walks past Hector and I. "Apologies, old friends. But the show must go on."
A few minutes passed and I heard booing and shouting on stage. Then Pepita flies up with Miguel. Pepita walks over and rubs against me before walking past the curtains onto the stage.
"Good boy dante." Miguel scratches behind the dog's ears. "Miguel!" Manuel hugs him. My brother and I started to glow again and fell in pain. Maria was crying from the pain as well. "Y/n! Hector! The photo...I lost it." Miguel kneels by our side. I smiled and placed one of my boned hands on his cheek. "It's okay, mijo. It's o–"I groaned and fell to the ground completely. Maria is still in my arms. "Y/n! Hector?" He cries out. "Coco." I whisper. "No! We can still find the photo." He desperately says. Manuel runs over and places my head on his lap. "Miguel! It's almost sunrise." He says. Miguel shakes his head. "No, no, I can't leave you." He takes my hand in his. "I promised to put your photo up. I promised you'd see Coco." Tears gather in his eyes. I sigh. "We're both out of time, mijo." I whisper. "Oh no! No! She can't forget you guys!"
I stare up at the sky. "I just wanted him to know that I loved him." I mutter weakly as I hold up an orange petal. "You have our blessing, Miguel." Manuel takes my hand. "No conditions." He adds.
Miguel shakes his head. "No! Mama Y/n, please!" Dante whines. "No!" Miguel whimpers.
I smile. "Go home. Its okay." I promised. "I promise I won't let Coco forget you!" He says and Manuel makes the petal touch Miguel's chest. Suddenly...he was gone.
