She awoke on something cold, it scratched at her skin through the thin and ripped material of a dress that looked like it could of once been own by someone with lots of money. Frantically, pushing herself off the floor and onto her feet, and wincing as her muscles screamed in protest, she looked around. She had been lying on what looked to once have been a welcome mat, but now more like an old piled of itchy looking string. She also happened to be on someone's porch. Great. She woke up with no idea where she was and she had to wake up on some random person's porch. What luck. As she squinted through the glare of the early morning light, she saw that the houses were old, but lived in. The windows were open and lines with dresses pants and t-shirts hung on them were strung across the street to dry. And as her eyes adjusted more to the light she saw that a few early risers were already walking down the street to work or so she guessed. How would she know she wasn't God or anything!
Once she finally took in her surroundings, the little of her attention that wasn't scrambled up in a big knot in her head, came to focus on herself. She felt like she was missing something, there was an emptiness in her heart. Puzzled, she tried to think back to what had brought her to this person's porch.
A fuzzy face with a kind smile, "This is the best I can offer..." And a name emblazoned in shimmering gold, Elizabeth Amelia Sophia. It was her name, somehow she could just tell.
Then everything went black.
That was all she could remember, nothing before nor after other than darkness, snippets of sentences that had no meaning, and flashes of colors.
Panicking at the lack of memory of her previous life, she tried even harder to remember. Suddenly, another name, Jack Stanley, this one emblazoned in silver, flashed before her eyes, then a huge pain rippled through her body and her mind blocked as if it had hit a wall.
As the seconds passed, the pain was not getting any better. It coursed through her body, the pain unbearable until she crumpled onto the old welcome mat, hot tears streaming down her face as she curled into the fetal position wishing the pain would stop. She blinked, something was wrong. She was lying on a soft bed and male and female voices murmured in a corner. Where was she? She racked her brain, the events of what she assumed to be the previous morning slowly came back and her eyes flew open in panic.
"Oh dearie, you're awake!" A motherly looking women with laugh lines around her eyes, eyes that shone with a caring light, stood next to her with a little boy clutching at her long, flowing dark purple skirt. A mop of curly brown hair and a stuffed animal, which he held to his nose, as if he were drawing comfort from it just from the smell. His blue eyes were gentle and filled with curiosity. As her eyes roamed around the room, she caught sight of a boy, he had a devilish grin and was wearing a pair of ripped skinny jeans with a black shirt that had a gray tie drawn on it. Something in the back of my mind stirred something about him... It felt as if i should know him.
"Yo," He drawled, "So I find you on our doorstep completely passed out, ever heard of passing out on your own doorstep? Were you drunk or something?"Then he pushed off the wall and walked out of the room.
"JACK STANLEY!!"The women who had first spoken yelled, "can't you be a little nicer sometimes and a little less rude!!!" Then turning to me she said, "I'm sorry, boys at the age of sixteen are very insensible."
She didn't respond, she was in shock. This boy who seemed familiar somehow also had the same name as the one that had appeared in her mind in silver. Something about this boy would help her regain what she had lost. She only had to figure out how.
