I dread today because it's me and Drew's birthday. Everyone greets Drew a happy birthday. No one knows I was born 15 seconds afterward. I then notice Jade with her emerald green hair in a ponytail and in her hands is a gift.
She goes to me and says, "Happy birthday, Miss Carmi. I wanted to thank you for helping me yesterday, so I remembered that Mr. Drew and your birthday are on the same day. I decided to get a small present but I hope you like it."
I opened it and it was a cute pink music box. When I opened it, it played "You Are My Sunshine". It was so adorable so I said, "Thank you so much, Jade! I love it."
Jade chuckled and said, "I knew you'd like it. When I was young, my Mom gave me that exact music box. I kept it even after she died, but you should keep it."
My eyes widen up and I say, "You should have this in remembrance of your Mom."
"She would've wanted me to give it to you. I really loved it."
I hug Jade real tight and she does so too. "I have to get to school but thank you."
Drew got his stupid LuniBox thing for his birthday. I'm surprised he gets away with everything, even the bully reports. Jake and Henry greet me and say happy birthday. I accept and wish to myself that some people would notice too, even Zoey is fine.
—--------------------------------Jake's perspective-------------------------------
I know, I'm a bad friend. Who doesn't give something on their best friend's birthday?! I remember Drew's so why can't I remember Carmine's birthday on the same day as Drew's?! I need to give her something good but I don't know what! Carmi is wrapped up in an anime otaku discussion with Henry, so I have time to think about what to give Carmine.
I think and think until Drew snaps me out of my thoughts.
"Hey Jake! Is your brain too fried to work?" Drew shouts.
"Oh sorry, just thinking," I say nervously.
"As I was saying, my Dad got me the new LuniBox for my birthday. Now I can do cooler stuff on it."
"Dude, you seriously are lucky to have rich parents."
"And look who it is. The music freaks," Drew said, noticing Hailey and Zander.
"And look who it is. The crew that bullies other people because that's the only thing they can do to get their minds off the fact that we're better than them," Hailey says with a lot of sass.
"Whatever, at least we're not a freak," Liam pointed out.
"Ok, have fun achieving nothing with your lives. You guys are the best at failing in life."
I keep thinking about what to give Carmi when Drew says, "Dude, I know you're thinking about getting Carmine a gift. Forget it, she's not that important."
"She's my best friend! How can I not give her a gift?!" I say.
"Whatever, are you coming over to my house? I'm gonna play on that new Lumibox console," Drew says while sighing.
"As fun as that sounds, I've got to go to the Music club."
And so then at that moment, I got an idea to host a secret birthday party. At lunch, I overhear Zander saying, "What if it was all a lie though? I'm just saying both Carmi and Jake are not trustable."
"Zander, the poor girl went through a lot! Honestly, you should be thankful that she's not glaring at you all the time!" Hailey puts in stubbornly.
"Fine, Carmi's at least better than Jake."
