Author's note: Hi guys, I know it's been some time but I finally have time to post this chapter along with another one. Thank you for the wait, I promise you that it is worth it.

—----------------------------Hailey's perspective------------------------------

Few minutes before the present moment

Me and the club were walking along and Zander told another one of his funny stories. I noticed that Sean was staring off into space while blushing. "Hey Seanie boy (pronounced shaw-nee boi), are you still thinking about your slightly tomboyish Cinderella?" I ask while smirking.

"W-what no! I-I was thinking about my family situation," Sean says while blushing, obviously lying through his teeth.

"Oh I see, so you're lying to cover it up. Really, it's adorable."

"Ew Hailey, you're picking up the Jakey Boy Virus. Jake said that to us remember," Zander said, staring at her with pure disbelief.

"Shut up Zander, he's my friend and as Club President I declare that it is illegal to talk about Jake like that unless he said something about us," I say while looking down at the ground.

As Zander ponders on that, Luke says in his usual gentle voice, "Hey guys, do you hear that?"

We stopped and heard it. "Is that Jake's voice?" Milly asked.

"You guys shouldn't disturb the teacher in the Choir classroom," a sudden dry voice said.

We were startled until we realized that it was only Sadie. "Oh um thanks for letting me know," I say with relief.

"No problem," Sadie said as she carried the books she was holding over to Ms. Jones's class.

Sean seemed to have already peaked inside the Choir room and he said, "Hey guys, that's Carmi and not the teacher."

We peaked in too and saw Carmi sing with her beautiful voice. I thought me and Jake could only sing. That means we're a trio of singers?! Who's next, Drew?!

After the song I applauded her. She seemed embarrassed and pale when she saw us there. We talked about it til Zander said that the worst thing that could happen was that Drew would hate her. I think that struck a nerve because then Carmi stormed out of there, pushing me and Luke away.

"Why's she so emotional?" Zander stated bluntly.

"Zander!" I said sharply. He can come off as a jerk but look down deep enough and you'll see a sweet guy with a fear of spiders and a love for cute and fluffy puppies.

"Um, it's complicated," Jake said, scratching the back of his head, "That was her protecting herself from you emotionally touching her."

"Can you tell us why?" Luke asked.

Jake hesitated a little before he started saying, "Alright, this starts after Drew drifted away and the Music competition that Hailey was in."

—---------------------------------4 years ago------------------------------------

"Jake, look at this! The school is doing Alice in Wonderland Jr. as the first musical ever!" Carmi said, pulling at Jake's inky blue jacket sleeves.

"I'm not going to go into something that will get me bullied," Jake said, rolling his eyes.

"What's the worst thing that could happen?"

"I dunno, getting beat up and being called a drama dork."

"Well let me know about the dork that did so and I'll punch them sore!"

"Violence is not the key to the solution."
