Instead of North as a bat, how about a bat that looks suspiciously like North, and a man who is normal and well-adjusted and absolutely isn't sick to his stomach missing his best friend every day because he cut contact with him to fulfill a mysterious purpose that is known only to him. Bats are like cats are like tarantulas are like eels to me. Same creatures.
Friend showed me a picture of a baby hippo. Those things have to be edible, right? Big ones are pretty much all muscle on top, but they must have fat under there somewhere. And the little ones look so soft. Has to be like veal, I think. They're sooooo cute, but when she was showing me all I could think was 'miso-gochujang rub... maple wood smoked... low and slow...' That is a roast pork.
