Thorn allowed Merrick take the lead in punishing the guards who had insulted Beam, she was his mate after all and the need for retribution would be overpowering, meanwhile he needed to think about everything that had transpired.

Had he not suffered enough by being abandoned as a baby not that his life had been bad thanks to his dad finding and adopting him and he was coming to terms with discovering that his mate was a man but only to find out later that his mates sister, the one whom he had initially thought was 'the one' was actually mated to his best friend ... he couldn't help feeling as if the goddess was having a big old laugh at his expense.

Not only had she made him wait over five years to meet his other half but now he had to change his whole outlook on relationships and sex but he was prepared to do that because Korn seemed like a good person, a funny and intelligent guy too and damn he was so cute.

So his mate was sick and too stubborn to call him and he had decided all by himself that because Thorn had only slept with females in the past and had shown an interest in his sister that they couldn't be together.

It was too late in the day to do anything about it now but tomorrow morning he was going to drive over there and find out what Thinnakorn was playing at.

Hadn't Korn been the one to emphasise that there were two people in this pairing so why was he taking it upon himself to try to ignore the bond and the one thing that Thorn was sure of right now was that he was not going to be ignored.

At 5.30am the following morning, Thinnakorn  just couldn't sleep anymore, his joints were aching and he felt lethargic as if he was coming down with something but he couldn't keep taking time off work or he would start losing clients.

He dragged himself out of bed and went to make a hot drink, he couldn't eat anything or he would throw up and decided that if the symptoms persisted he would need to go to the infirmary to see if they could give him something to help with the aches and pains.

After drinking his tea he washed and dressed before heading to his office, the security had changed since yesterday afternoon so he greeted the guard and thanked him for being there, it was only until he'd dealt with the gemstone collection and then he could just lock up as normal.

He made himself and the guard a hot drink and then went to the safe to remove the collection and began to work focusing solely on the gems and two hours later, he was done. He had authenticated them all and valued them as per the clients wishes so he placed them back into the safe and began writing up the paperwork including an invoice for the work done.

At 9am, he called the client and advised them that he was done and that they could collect their stones whenever it was convenient so they replied that they would send someone over later in the day and thanked him and after he had ended the call he flopped forward onto his desk, his forehead pressed against the cool wood.

He stayed there for a few minutes before he groaned and got up to retrieve the empty mug from the guard outside the door then he made another hot drink for them both before starting on his next job.

This one was easier, he was working on an antique mourning brooch and he had to identify the setting and the stones, of course it wouldn't hurt to try and value the piece while he was at it so the first job was to try and find some kind of makers mark.

Usually the stones used in mourning jewellery were jet but these stones were translucent which pointed to them being obsidian, onyx or black enamel but only examining the piece further would tell him for sure.

The gemstones were set in an intricate floral pattern almost emulating a bunch of grapes and the setting was black, most probably iron cast so Korn suspected it was of german/prussian origin from the early to mid nineteenth century but of course this was only his initial examination.
