Imagine based off of Photograph by Ed Sheeran.
He gave it to me the day he left for the Believe Tour.
We were at the airport, tears streaming down my face. He wiped them away softly with his thumbs and smiled sadly.
He told me he wants to cry too but he needs to be strong for me.
I remember he pulled out something from his front jean pocket.
Slipping it into my hand without my consent, he told me and I quote, "so you can keep me inside the pocket of your ripped jeans. Holding me close until our eyes meet. You won't ever be alone...wait for me too come home".
One firm, loving kiss on my lips and he was walking to the plane, only looking back once.
My sobs increased as he disappeared infront of me.
I took a taxi back home, still having not looked at the paper in my hand.
Loving hurts. Loving hurts sometimes. I know it will get easier over time.
Or will it?
I kept my hand securely clamped onto the secret treasure he left me until I was laying in the now empty bed.
Slowly I opened my hand. A small piece of paper floated down onto my chest.
Grabbing it and looking at it, a happy tear dripped down my cheek.
A photograph of him and I.
I was smiling into the camera while he was behind me, arms wrapped around my torso. I was holding onto his arms as he was kissing my cheek.
A pain of emptiness sat in my stomach.
A pain of loneliness.
As he said, I kept that photograph in the pocket of my ripped skinny jeans. I also brought it with me whenever I wasn't wearing them.
It reminded me that I was loved and wasn't alone.
It brought up emotions. Some good, some bad.
I was at a empty park on a sunny day when a memory slipped into my mind.
He had just turned 19 and we were spending the weekend in Paris. One night at 2 in the morning he brought me too a empty, dark street.
The street corners name was 6th street.
And our first kiss was shared under its lamppost.
I'll never forget the way he kissed me there.
Halfway into his tour I receive a small envelope in the mail.
As I stand in the kitchen I rip it open, eager to find what will be inside. I pull out a note on white paper.
"You can fit me inside the necklace you got when you were 16. Next to your heart, be where I should be. Keep it deep within your soul...wait for me too come home" it says.
The pretty, original handwriting testifies it's Justin's.
Searching in the envelope again I pull out a very small picture of him smiling and holding up his hands in a heart shape. I giggle through the tears running down my cheeks.
One Thursday night, I was reading a book about long distance relationships when the doorbell rang. Quickly I got up, utterly confused.
Standing in the doorway of our house, he was there.
Sharing tears, laughs, and kisses, I hugged him tightly and whispered into his shoulder "I waited for you too come home".
