The car screeched to a halt outside Y/N’s father’s mansion, and Taehyung stepped out, his gaze immediately scanning the large estate before making his way to the front door. He pushed it open and stepped inside, a smile curving his lips at the thought of seeing her after a long day.
“Y/N, I’m here!” he called out, his voice echoing through the spacious living room as he slipped off his coat and set down a few bags by the entrance. He’d made sure to buy all her favorite treats and sweets from the local patisserie. Just thinking about how her eyes would light up made his heart race.
But when he glanced around, she wasn’t there. His brows furrowed slightly in confusion as he looked towards the living room where he usually found her.
A sudden wave of panic surged through him as his gaze darted around. “Y/N?” he called again, louder this time. He moved quickly towards the living room, only to halt abruptly in his tracks as he saw her sitting on the plush couch, leaning slightly forward. Minji was beside her, one hand on her shoulder as if trying to keep her steady.
Y/N’s face was a mixture of pain and confusion, her brows knitted together and her teeth biting down hard on her lower lip. Sweat beaded on her forehead, and Taehyung’s heart dropped to his stomach as he watched her hand clutch her swollen belly, her breathing coming out in short, labored gasps.
“Y/N!” he shouted, rushing forward without a second thought, dropping everything he held. His eyes were wide with worry as he reached her side and dropped to his knees, his hands shaking slightly as he placed them on her belly and then moved them up to her face.
“Love, what’s wrong?” he demanded, his voice thick with fear and urgency. His gaze flickered to Minji, who looked just as frightened as he felt.
“She… she said it hurts a lot,” Minji stammered, her eyes darting back and forth between Y/N and Taehyung. “I think it’s time, Taehyung. The baby—”
Taehyung’s world seemed to tilt on its axis. He swallowed hard, his throat dry as he turned his full attention to Y/N. She looked up at him, her eyes glassy with unshed tears. “T-Tae… it hurts so much,” she whispered, her voice barely audible, a mixture of fear and pain.
His heart twisted painfully in his chest, and he felt like he couldn’t breathe. He had been preparing for this moment for months, but now that it was here, all that calm composure he had worked so hard to maintain seemed to shatter.
“Shh, it’s okay. You’re okay,” he whispered soothingly, though he could barely keep the tremor out of his voice. He gently brushed a strand of damp hair away from her face, his thumb brushing against her cheek tenderly. “I’m right here, love. Just breathe, okay? I’ll take you to the hospital right now.”
Minji nodded quickly, scrambling to her feet as Taehyung carefully scooped Y/N up into his arms. He held her close, as if he were afraid she would break, his entire body tense as he made his way out of the house and towards the waiting car.
“I’m going to get you there as fast as I can, baby. I promise,” he murmured against her hair, his voice tight. He tried to sound calm for her sake, but he couldn’t hide the desperation lacing his words. “Just hold on to me.”
Y/N let out a pained whimper, her fingers gripping the front of his shirt tightly as another contraction ripped through her. “T-Taehyung, I— I’m scared,” she gasped, her voice trembling as she buried her face in the crook of his neck.
He closed his eyes, his heart breaking at the sound of her voice. “I know, baby. I know,” he whispered back, pressing a soft kiss to her temple as he stepped into the backseat of the car, cradling her on his lap. “But I’m here. I’m not going anywhere. Just focus on me, okay?”
