Chapter 8

FULL MOON EFFECT (PART I)

As soon as I was free from my mother's grip, I ran up the stairs straight into my room. Before I could do anything else I sat down at my workstation and took out my laptop from my backpack. Placing it on the table, I turned it on and unlocked it. I opened a browser and searched.

'Animals that are wolf like and are almost the size of a bear.'

I got a few search results but one caught my attention.

'Werewolves? Can that animal really be a werewolf?'

I sat there trying to recall where I had read about them.

And then it hit me. Fantasy based Novels. I focused myself on the search results and started reading.

'Shape shifters'

'Human like features'

I sat there gaining interest as I read.

'So, the novels describe them well. Human features but inhuman senses and strength. Everything else is wolf features.'

'Mates for life'

'Blood bondage'

'Interesting,' I thought as I sat there wondering how much of the things I had known and thought I didn't.

"Scarlett honey."

My mom bulged in causing me to shut my laptop as quick as I could.

I turned to face her with a smile.

"Hey mom."

"Are you alright?"

"What do you mean?"

"I walked in and you shut your laptop."

"Oh that. You just found me preparing to walk out."

"Are you sure dear?"

"Yeah. How can I help you mom?"

"Well, your sister told me you didn't eat lunch so... I made you your favorite."

"Gee thanks mom."

"Of course."

She replied and went as she came.

I flipped my computer open and continued my research. I discovered some symbols that the net explains that they are well known to be associated with cults that were associated with the werewolves. I decided to search some more.

'How mates find or know that they are mates?'

I waited for like 13 seconds and the results shocked me.

'A strong alluring scent'

Then it hit me. When I walked to Havelock Forest, I could smell something like lavender and when Conan showed up, the scent was gone. Got me thinking what that meant. I think I might have known but I didn't want to believe it. I did further research.

'How do mates give their partner an indication that they are mates?'

I waited again but longer this time. I don't know why the network started tripping all of a sudden. I waited for a while and got the results. I was shocked to know that the male wolf would bite the female wolf on the neck where the collarbone and neck bone meets in turn bonding them for life. 

I didn't know how the bond meant anything until I searched and realized that if the any of the two were to die or be in pain... so would the other. This scared me a little but as I thought of it... made a little sense of why they mate for life. Still, I wouldn't consider it if it were me.

"Scarlett, you better hurry, your food is getting cold!"

My mother exclaimed in the corridor leading to my room.

"Coming!"

I replied and shut down my laptop.

I went to eat my lunch by the time the clock hit 2. Pretty late lunch if you'll ask me.

After eating, I went back to my room, did some more research and slept for a few hours.

By the time the clock hit 6:05, I was up. I got up to a tingling sensation which was all over my skin. I realized that today was the full moon, so I figured. That's why my skin felt weird as it always does every full moon. I got out of bed and looked around the room. In so doing, I realized that my vision was all fuzzy. 

I couldn't see properly and what was weird was that I had a bit of double vision. My senses are intense of course but today, things were different. They were strange. I even started having the urge for blood and my back started to ache. The pain got worse every second and it felt like my body was breaking. That has never happened before. I started to panic.

"Mom!"

I exclaimed but got no response.

"Mom!"

I exclaimed even louder, and I started to panic even more.

The urge got even more intense. I sat at the corner of my room.

I heard footsteps approach my bedroom and the door was opened. Mom came in and saw me sitting at the corner.

"Honey? What is it? I heard you calling from the garden."

"What's wrong with me?"

"What do you mean dear?"

"This..."

I said as I showed her my fingers which had claws on them and not my normal nails.

"Oh dear. It's time."

"Time? Time for what?"

"Herold!"

She exclaimed running out of the room to meet my father.

They came back a few minutes later and mom was carrying a mug in a tray.

"Scarlett, I need you to take this."

"What is that? Mom what's going on? A moment ago, I was resting and now I have the sudden urge for blood. What did you do to me?"

"Darling just take this and I'll explain."

She said passing me the mug.

I looked inside and smelled the contents.

'Blood'

I drunk it without hesitation, and everything went back to normal. My sight, my nails and the tingling sensation. All of them vanished instantly.

'What is going on with me?'

I thought as I looked at my dress which had blood stains on the chest area.

"Mom. What's going on?"

"Come with me."

She said whilst stretching her arm out to me.

I took it and she helped me get on my feet.

"Where do you want to take me?"

"You'll see."

She said as she walked out of the room leading me out of the house and into the garden.

"Mom? What are we doing in the garden?"

"I want to show you something. Do you trust me?"

"Am... I guess."
