Chapter 16

When the clock hit 8:07, Scarlett's phone chimed and there was a car horn heard from outside the house. She walked out of her closet with and went straight to her phone. She unlocked it and read the message she had received.

'I need you to bring a change of clothes with you. It's important.'

She sat down forgetting that the person she was texting was outside waiting for her.

'Why?'

She texted back.

A minute later, her phone chimed.

'Just get the clothes and you'll understand when you're going to need them.'

'Am... okay cool.'

She replied, dropped her phone and walked into her closet.

Minutes later, she came out of the closet with a backpack. She took her phone from her bed. Wrote a message and walked out of her room.

Walking down the stairs I saw mom at the door laughing uncontrollably. I looked past her and noticed that she was talking to Conan who was smiling at her warmly.

'This guy is being way too nice to mom. She's going to love him too much. I'll end up being forced into moving in with him before I am ready.'

I thought as I walked up to the two.

"Morning mom."

I said while I kissed her right cheek and hugged her from behind.

"Oh, Scarlett dear. You're awake. That's good."

"Hey Conan. Tell Duke I say hi."

"Hello to you too. You ready?"

"Yeah sure. Where are we going again?"

I asked him while my arms were still around mom.

"We'll talk about that in the car. Mrs. Blackwood, thank you for the warm welcome. I'm afraid we have to be on our way. We... will see you at 3."

"Oh no worries, dear. You too run along. And please, call me Stacy."

I groaned lightly and let go of her.

"Bye mom. I love you."

I said and walked out of the house, past Conan. He walked ahead of me and opened the car door for me. I got in and threw the backpack at the back seat. Conan walked around the car and got into the driver's seat.

"You ready?"

He asked while starting the engine.

I looked outside the window and watched as my mom waved at me. I waved back, put on my seatbelt and turned to my left to look at Conan.

"Yeah. Let's do this."

I said and he stepped on the accelerator.

40 minutes in, I looked out the window and to Conan.

"So... where are you taking me today?"

"You'll see."

He said with a smirk.

I looked at him, scoffed and looked out the window. I watched as he took a turn exiting the highway, leading us to the countryside. I sat there, chin resting on the window and eyes on the trees that we passed, one after the other. 20 minutes passed and he took a turn into a dirt road. 

5 minutes in, the road lead into a tar mark road and we were wheeling into the gate of a big and beautiful mansion surrounded by beautiful trees. I looked at Conan and didn't know what to say. The place was magnificent. It was intriguing.
