Hyemi walked around the kitchen making herself some scrambled eggs. Her mom's voice wretched from the phone's speaker as she went on and on about her friend's son who was a doctor..or was it a lawyer? She had long lost attention and sat down on the counter eating her dinner. The distant formal tone of her mother's voice kept playing.
"So much attention when I can handle myself well now," she muttered.
Her mom stopped. "I know I wasn't a great mother. But the least I can do is find someone to stay by your side, I doubt you are capable of doing something like that on your own,"
"I don't have to prove you if I am capable of being loved or not," she spoke quickly now, her heart sinking as every memory of being left alone played in her mind. She shoved the thoughts off, focusing back on the call, "And who would love a child if its own mother didn't,"
There was a brief pause on the other end before Hyemi hung up, not wanting her mother to say anything more. She groaned, munching on her toast—the best meal she could whip up after a long day at work. If Taehyun had come home earlier, she would've had a much better dinner.
Her phone chimed with a notification, but she ignored it, assuming it was just her mother's assistant sending pictures of some wealthy guy with a decent job. Hesitantly, she picked it up, only to find a new group chat instead of another random guy's bio.
