"Did you hear? All FOUR of those humans forged a pact with Mammon...!"
"ALL FOUR OF THEM?!"
"Yeah! You think it's the idea of the sorcerer one?"
"The white-haired one?? Probably... Maybe Solomon's influence."
"But why would Mammon forge pacts with a human?"
Josie sits quietly, doodling in her book as the whispers surround her. With earphones in, she hums to herself as she adds a mini Azuki-tan next to a chibi Hana Ruri. Once satisfied with the result, she takes a pic and sends it in the new group chat with just the humans.
As the group chat blows up with texts, Josie feels a presence behind her, accompanied by a soft and elegant voice.
"Whenever you make an important announcement, the demons couldn't care less. Rumours... they really do spread like wildfire."
The woman quickly takes off her earphones, fearing a professor. She turns around, only to see a student. Breathing out a sigh of relief, she returns to texting when she hears the demon mumbling to himself again.
"Just when I thought the uproar about the new exchange students from the human world had started to subside..."
They're talking about her and the other humans? It won't hurt to eavesdrop when it's about them right?
Josie observes the pale-skinned demon, who is now frowning at the class. Short dark green hair with bangs reaching his eyebrows. The fringe on his left is longer, reaching his nose and has a turquoise ombre. Neatly worn uniform, and under it is a turquoise dress shirt with a wingtip collar and dark green tie. Instead of a belt, he wears a white cummerbund which matches his white gloves.
And the Demon Prince is right beside him.
"Come now, don't say that, Barbatos. I would say that this gossip is a good thing. In this manner, everyone will be keeping an eye on the humans, making it hard for any demon to go after their souls when no one is looking."
So his name is Barbatos...
A familiar cold voice chimes in: Lucifer.
"Indeed. Since Mammon is not doing a very good job as their guardian. I told him to look after the humans, but he's off somewhere shirking his responsibilities. Though I expected this to happen."
These demons don't know that the human in the room is quietly typing out what they're saying to her fellow humans. An incubus next to her stares at the name of the group chat, confused.
".... Dysfunctional Family of Idiots...?"
"Mind your own business please?"
"Your D.D.D. seems very busy. I can call the professor for you?"
"... Allies? I'll get you an autograph from Mammon."
"Allies."
"Shake on it. Josie."
The incubus shakes her hand.
"Aeron."
Diavolo's cheerful voice makes the two of them freeze.
"Making friends already? You're adjusting to the Devildom faster than I had imagined, Josie!
Josie nods awkwardly, not saying anything. The Demon Prince continues.
"I must say, I can't believe you managed to forge a pact with Mammon, Josie. Not just you, but your cousins too, and Luna as well. That's no small feat. What's more, you achieved such a feat in such a short time!"
