Nakul felt the weight of his father's words pressing down on him. He knew Pradyuman was right—feeding the child was more than just a physical act. It was a symbol of his acceptance, of his willingness to step up as a father, no matter how frightening the situation.
But the fear wouldn't go away. Every time the baby cried for milk, the pit in his stomach deepened. He couldn't shake the feeling that the act of feeding would somehow strengthen the curse that still hung over his family like a shadow.
"I'm not ready," Nakul whispered, turning his back to the baby, feeling ashamed. "I can't do it."
The baby's cries grew more desperate, their small hands reaching out in confusion and need. Abhijeet's heart ached for them, but he understood Nakul's hesitation. Gently, Abhijeet took the baby from Nakul's arms and cradled them. He knew Nakul needed time, but the child couldn't wait.
"It's okay, Nakul," Abhijeet said softly. "You're not alone. I'll take care of them for now."
Pradyuman sighed, his disappointment palpable, but he didn't push Nakul any further. "Take your time, Nakul. But remember, the longer you wait, the harder it will be to build that bond."
