Z A R I A HIsaiah held his hand up, telling me to calm down.
"Yes. The debt that your father was in? It was more than I knew about. Now I want you to understand that the only reason I'm telling you this is so you won't think I left you in the dark. In case shit goes left-"
"Why would it go left?"
"Just fucking listen, Zariah." He snapped and I shut my mouth close. "His debt was not his, per se. It was your mother's."
My face paled. My mother? What does she have to do with the freaking Mafia?? "What?"
"Apparently, she stole from us, while she was pregnant with you. I was only five at the time and being trained and taught certain shit that you're not ready to hear about yet. That's why I wasn't aware of what the fuck was going on until recently. She was a maid and worked for us. She ratted us out to the enemy and stole over ten million dollars worth of merchandise before she disappeared. I don't know what happened to her after that because my father didn't tell me much but what I do know is that she hid the money and it's been burning a hole in my father's pockets for years."
"My dad knew about this?" I asked.
"Yes. And I'm sure he knows more than he's letting on— like my father."
"So... my mom was a maid for you guys... she stole for you and ratted you out... my dad knows about it and didn't tell me a damn thing... instead he sells me to you as some kind of fucking trade... and I'm worth ten .million. dollars." I recited flatly. It wasn't comprehending until it finally hit me like a tidal wave. "TEN MILLION FUCKING DOLLARS!?" I screeched, jumping up from my sitting position to pace the room.
Isaiah watches me calmly as I took my time to process this. Suddenly, I realized something. "Wait, so me marrying Damon-"
"Wasn't apart of your father's plan, it was Kenvy's. He knew how much you were worth and if you were to marry Damon then that would make us as a family more powerful and for some reason, stronger, because that would make you the New York Mafia's Donna. And the only Donna to ever step foot into this family in years. The last one was Damon and Winter's mother, Kenvy's pass wife and she died when Winter was born."
"So I'm just a pawn for his fucking greedy needs?" I spat in anger.
"Yes."
"What type of shit-"
"Look," Isaiah sighs as he checks his watch before getting up. "Try not to let on that you know about any of this. Let Damon or Kenvy explain it to you. I was told that you will be briefed about everything after the wedding, but I wanted to tell you first so you'll know that I knew nothing about this and I just found out myself."
"But you kept the part about being in the Mafia from me." I glared.
"I had to, Zariah. I didn't trust you."
"So you trust me now?"
"Yes." He says without hesitation. "As much as I hate to admit it, I trust you more then I trust myself. And I don't want to see you hating the world— or me— for something I had no part of." He explains as he gets closer to me to hold my arms. "If you ever wanted to talk about this shit, I want you to know that you can always come to me. Rather I understand you or not. Don't let your anger bottle up, let it out."
I stared at him skeptically. Should I believe him? Yes, he told me but he withdrew a few information about himself. He let me believe that this whole thing was my dad's doing, and that it wasn't as deep as I was making it out to be.
But he told me when he didn't have to.
"Okay." I nodded slowly. My nerves were shooting the roof but I tried to calm myself down so I won't hyperventilate.
Times like this I wish I had my pills. I was boiling with rage but I couldn't show it.
"Okay? You're taking this calmer than I expected. You sure you're not insane?" He teased and I slapped his arm, making him chuckle.
"What else am i supposed to do? I'm already here and my fate has already been decided for me. I can't just sit here and cry about it, it'll just make this a whole lot worse."
"Good. You're stronger than I gave you credit for." He smiles.
He smiled!
My eyes widen and I gawked at him, stunned. He frowns at me. "What?"
"You're smiling." I point out and just like that his face drops and he tries to mask it with a cold look. "I've known you for what? Three weeks? And I have never seen you smile before!" I beamed excitedly.
"Alright, I think I'm getting too comfortable. Let's go before my brother starts looking for you." He mumbles and turns around to hide his blushing face.
I giggled but didn't point it out.
This was a new look for him and it makes me happy to know that I'm the reason it's there.
