Z A R I A H

It's the day of my engagement party and I couldn't be any more depressed.

Sara came in to help me get ready while the other maids and workers decorated the house.

I spent the past three hours with Sara and I think she's starting to become a new friend. She talked to me about her friends and her life before she started working here. She was a simple sixteen year old girl who went to trips to the beach or hung out at bars with her homegirls.

She has some wild stories and it surprises me to know that a timid girl like her used to be untamed.

"This dress is so pretty. Mr. Milan is going to drool when he sees you in this." Sara beams as she helps me fix the bun in my head.

She's right, the dress is beautiful but I feel out of place wearing it. I wanted to be excited or even happy but I couldn't. This just wasn't right. It's not me.

It's white and fitted, the dress stops mid thigh and it's off the shoulders with ruffles at the top. It's the type of dress I know Isaiah would tell me to burn like he did with the feathered dress from the mall.

A smile crawled on my lips thinking about that day

A smile crawled on my lips thinking about that day.

The same day he took me in his car.

"Why the sudden smile?" Sara asks, bringing me to.

"Oh nothing, I'm just excited to see everyone. Got any tips for me?"

"Just smile and wave. Don't talk to anyone unless spoken to and even then, try to let Mr. Milan do most of the talking." She rants as she puts in the final pin. "All done, take a look."
