Pour Over

"That didn't seem as enjoyable as usual," Natalia admits, sliding her head out from the blanket.

She gives a lopsided half-smile. Her eyebrows are lowered, and she looks somewhat disappointed. I slide my arms across the smooth sheets and stretch, yawning and keeping my eyes focused on her as she steps toward the bathroom.

I think back to five minutes ago and the climax that I endured. I didn't have any issues. But she did seem less enthusiastic than she normally is.

I shake my head. "Why does it matter? Sex won't always be amazing. If sex was amazing every time, then it truly would get boring after a while. We would get stuck trying to find new ways or things to do during sex. I think boring sex has to happen from time to time."

"Maybe we need to!" She argues as she steps into the bathroom.

She sounds flustered as she turns the sink on. I could see that in her face when I climaxed. I know she was able to finish, but it wasn't a strong finish for her.

We cannot base this relationship on sex. Or else it will fail. There have been days that I feel myself somewhat sliding back to the old me. She has changed who I am and what I need in my life, but that doesn't mean I won't have days when I just want a relationship and not sex.

With a toothbrush in her mouth, she's trying to wipe cream on her face while walking out of the bathroom. She's like a circus and trying to juggle too much at once. And I've never seen her use that cream before either.

Slowly sliding my head up, I place it against the backboard and stare at her as she starts getting ready for...whatever it is she's getting ready for.

"You aren't going to shower?" I question.

She freezes in place and slowly turns her head toward me. She removes the toothbrush from her mouth with an annoyed look riddled on her face. I may have hit a nerve with her. But she does that enough with me so it's only fair.

"I am showering." She argues. "It's still early. You barflies have no idea what it's like getting up at seven a.m."

"No kidding," I say and give an unenthused smirk while rapidly rubbing my hands against my face, trying to wake myself up. "You and I broke a record. The earliest time I have ever had sex. Second earliest time waking up in the morning."

She pulls the toothbrush back out of her mouth. She has this glowing confidence in her right now, which is surprising considering she wasn't too pleased with the outcome of our experience. She points the toothbrush in my direction.

"What was the first earliest time for waking up." She asks.

"It's not important. Just know, it's something we will probably discuss one day...especially once we are married!" I say while squirming under the blankets and sliding myself back down. "Now, if you don't mind, I would love to fall back asleep for a few hours. This barfly isn't adjusted to waking up this early. You might have meetings...or whatever it is you do with your company, but I have a bar to run, and I cannot do that on lack of sleep."

She bites down on the toothbrush and quickly rubs her hands together. She grabs the edge of the blanket and whips it off me and across the room. She quickly removes the toothbrush from her mouth and points it at me again. She has this giant evil smile on her face.

"Today is a new day, Lacey Martin! We are happy. We both have the jobs and lifestyles we want. Our sex life is...great...on most days. This morning was questionable."

"Hey!" I interrupt, reaching for a pillow to throw it. "I get a pass. It was the earliest wake-up call I have ever received. It's not every day I wake up with a beautiful woman's head in between my legs. You tried starting an engine that roared perfectly fine but didn't want to move the car...if you understand my logic."

She glances down between her legs and rolls her eyes. I can see the disappointment radiating from her face. "Oh, trust me, babe. I know that engine didn't want to move the car. I am proof the oil was low."

She slides the toothbrush back into her mouth and turns around. She is sliding her feet as she walks back to the bathroom. She's annoyed, maybe disappointed and I can't blame her. But like I said, sex can't be great every time. Although her comment was pretty fucking funny.

"Well. If you need a lube job, I have something in mind. Just not now. I have no physical stamina for anything."

"Yeah! I know!" Her voice pings off the walls. I can hear the soft but agitated tone in it. And now she is getting into the shower, although we just argued about that. "I'm not just showering to clean myself."

"Have fun!" I yell back, slowly sliding my body down the bed and getting comfortable.

My eyes are slowly getting heavy. I am fighting to stay awake. I love Natalia more than life itself. But she is too needy sometimes. And I can be just as needy, like needing this bed right now.

My eyes become heavier with every second that goes by. My staring outside at the early sunshine and blue skies do not help any. It only brings more comfort to me, and comfort makes me tired.

I slowly close my eyes and think back on the comment I made to her. The second earliest time being awake. The first was getting the news about my dad. That's why I refused to acknowledge it. I don't want to bring that discussion up until the time is right. I am honestly surprised she didn't push for more of an answer.

This blanket feels so comfortable!

A vibration near my face causes me to wake up and jolt. Everything looks blurry. I give myself a second to focus my eyes and rub my fingers against them, hoping it will help. I shake my head and wipe the drool from my face. I look at the silver lining of my phone in front of me. I pick it up and groggily look at it.

Why is Natalia calling? She's in the bathroom!

I glance toward the bathroom, realizing I don't hear the shower water running anymore. I bolt up and look outside only to realize the sun is on the opposite side of the window. I put the phone on the loudspeaker and jump out of bed.

"What time is it?" I yell while rushing to search for my clothes. I hear her cough a laugh, as I am beginning to freak out. "Seriously! Did I fall back asleep or what?"

"Relax babe!" She says.

I can hear the sound of her car in the background. Or at least what sounds like someone driving. How long did I sleep?
