Sakura ate the breakfast Kakashi had made for them, her eyes drifting to admire him as he moved around the kitchen. She loved the way his silver hair fell into his eyes, the way he looked so focused on even the simplest tasks. It made her heart flutter.
Her thoughts were interrupted by the buzzing of her phone. Glancing down, she saw Ino's name flash across the screen. Biting her lip, Sakura hesitated before answering the call. "Forehead, you have some serious explaining to do. I just had to cover for your ass. Your mom called me asking how your birthday night went at my place," Ino snapped, her tone anything but pleasant.
"Ino, I can explain—"
"Shut it, Forehead. Meet me at our usual place in an hour." The line went dead before Sakura could even respond.
She let out the breath she'd been holding, feeling a rush of anxiety as she stared at her phone. Kakashi, who had been sipping his coffee, raised an eyebrow. "Want to share?" he asked, setting his cup down on the kitchen island.
Sakura sighed, leaning back in her chair. "My mom called Ino, asking about my birthday night... because I told her I was staying with Ino."
Kakashi's eyes widened in alarm, his features tensing. "Wait, are you saying your parents know?"
Sakura quickly shook her head, raising her hands in reassurance. "No, no, they don't know. Ino said she covered for me, but she wants to meet up and talk. She's pretty pissed off, though." She picked up her own coffee, taking a long sip as her mind raced with thoughts of how to handle the situation.
Kakashi exhaled in relief, though a flicker of worry still lingered in his gaze. He walked over to her, gently rubbing slow circles on her shoulders, his touch soothing. Leaning down, he pressed a soft kiss to her neck, his voice a murmur against her skin. "You know you'll have to tell her eventually. Maybe today's the day."
His lips sent a familiar warmth through her, and despite the tension in her chest, she blushed at his closeness. A soft sigh escaped her. "Yeah, I know. She did see us that day, and she's been kind enough not to push for more details. But now that she's covering for me, it feels different."
Kakashi hummed thoughtfully, walking back to his coffee. He trusted Ino's discretion, but the risk was always there, gnawing at the back of his mind. He set the cup down, his gaze serious. "She wouldn't tell on us, would she?"
Sakura shook her head, finishing the last bite of her breakfast. "No, she wouldn't. Ino's not like that. I just need to smooth things over with her. I guess I should start heading out now." She stood up, brushing her hands on her pants as she moved toward the door.
Kakashi met her there, pulling her into a warm embrace. His hands rested on the small of her back as he captured her lips in a gentle, yet hungry kiss. When they finally pulled apart, his breath was warm against her ear. "I'll miss you," he whispered.
Sakura smiled, her heart swelling at the tenderness in his voice. "I'll text you later, okay?"
Kakashi nodded, opening the door for her as she stepped outside. The cool morning air greeted her, but the warmth from his kiss lingered, keeping her heart light despite the looming conversation with Ino.
The soft clink of cups and the hum of casual conversation filled the small café as Sakura sat nervously, her hands wrapped around a steaming mug of tea. She glanced around, biting her lower lip, her anxiety mounting. She didn't want to have this conversation, but Ino had been persistent—too persistent. And now here she was, waiting for her best friend to arrive.
It didn't take long. The bell above the door jingled as Ino stepped inside, scanning the room until her sharp blue eyes landed on Sakura. A knowing smirk curled at the edges of her lips, and she made a beeline for the table.
