Days passed in a haze of avoidance and tension. Sakura had stuck to her plan-keeping her distance from Kakashi, acting as if nothing had happened between them. She didn't stay behind after class, didn't linger in the hallways hoping for a moment alone with him. Every time their eyes met, she quickly looked away, forcing herself to be distant. It was agonizing. Her body yearned for him, but the stakes had gotten too high.
Ino's warning still echoed in her mind, a constant reminder that they couldn't be reckless anymore.
But the more she avoided him, the more she felt the rift between them growing, until one afternoon her phone buzzed during class. She sneaked a glance at the screen, and her heart skipped a beat.
Kakashi: We need to talk. Can you meet me after school?
Her hands trembled as she read the message, her mind racing. She couldn't meet him here, not at school. Not when eyes were constantly watching. After a moment of hesitation, she typed out a reply.
Sakura: Not at school. Let's meet somewhere else.
There was a long pause before her phone buzzed again.
Kakashi: Where?
Sakura chewed her lip, thinking quickly. She couldn't suggest a public place where they might be recognized, but they couldn't meet in a secluded spot either-too risky. After another few moments, she sent a reply.
Sakura: There's a café on the outskirts of town. It's quiet, not many people go there. Can we meet there?
This time, his reply came quicker.
Kakashi: I'll be there at 6.
The rest of the school day crawled by. Sakura could barely focus, her thoughts entirely consumed by what would happen later. She kept her head down, moving through the motions of the day like a ghost, her heart racing every time she thought of Kakashi waiting for her outside of school grounds.
As soon as the final bell rang, she hurried home to change. Her heart thundered in her chest as she stood in front of her mirror, her fingers nervously adjusting the hem of her shirt, smoothing down her hair. The thought of meeting Kakashi outside of school, away from prying eyes, filled her with a dangerous mix of excitement and fear.
This was the first time they would be alone together outside of the classroom. There was something more intimate, more secretive about it. And that terrified her.
When she finally arrived at the small café, she spotted Kakashi sitting at a corner table, his face mostly hidden behind his mask and the book he was pretending to read. The sight of him sent a rush of warmth through her, and despite her best efforts to stay calm, her pulse quickened. He looked up as she approached, his eyes narrowing slightly, but there was an unmistakable heat behind them.
She slid into the chair across from him, her throat tight as she forced herself to meet his gaze. The café was quiet, with only a few patrons scattered about, but even in the privacy of this space, Sakura felt like they were playing with fire.
"Professor Hatake..." she began, her voice soft, but he cut her off.
"Just Kakashi," he said quietly, his eyes holding hers for a beat longer than necessary. "We're not in class."
The way he said it made her stomach twist in a way that was far from unpleasant. She swallowed hard, forcing herself to focus.
"I... I couldn't meet you at school anymore," she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper. "Ino saw us. She knows."
Kakashi didn't react at first, his gaze steady and unreadable. "How much does she know?"
"She saw us that day in the classroom," Sakura said, her hands clenching in her lap. "She confronted me about it. She promised she wouldn't tell anyone, but... I can't take any more risks. I've been trying to keep my distance because... because I can't stop thinking about what might happen if someone else finds out."
For a long moment, Kakashi didn't say anything, his eyes scanning her face as if weighing her words carefully. Finally, he leaned back in his chair, letting out a slow breath.
"I understand," he said softly, his voice calm, but there was a tension behind it. "You're right to be cautious, Sakura. What we've done... what we're doing, it's dangerous. It could ruin both of us."
Sakura felt her heart sink at the cold truth of his words. It was dangerous, and it could ruin them. But even now, sitting across from him, she couldn't stop wanting him. The pull between them was too strong.
"But..." Kakashi continued, his voice lowering, "staying away from you these past few days has been unbearable. I thought... maybe you regretted what happened."
Sakura's breath caught in her throat. "No. I don't regret it," she said quickly, surprising even herself with the intensity of her response. "I just... I don't know how to handle this."
Kakashi's eyes softened slightly. "Neither do I," he admitted, his voice barely audible over the soft hum of the café. "But I don't want to stop."
His words hung in the air between them, heavy with meaning. Sakura's heart raced, her pulse pounding in her ears. She didn't want to stop either. But the more they pushed forward, the more dangerous it became.
"I've been thinking about you every day," she whispered, her voice trembling. "Even when I was avoiding you, I couldn't stop."
Kakashi's gaze darkened, his hand flexing on the table. For a brief moment, she thought he might reach for her, but then he seemed to think better of it. Instead, he leaned forward, his voice dropping to a low murmur.
"I want you to be sure about this, Sakura," he said, his eyes searching hers. "Because once we cross this line, there's no going back. We can't pretend nothing's happening anymore."
Sakura swallowed hard, her heart hammering in her chest. She knew what he was saying-this wasn't just some fleeting moment of passion. This was real. And it was dangerous. But no matter how much she tried to fight it, she couldn't deny what she wanted.
"I'm sure," she whispered, her voice firm. "I don't want to pretend anymore."
Kakashi held her gaze for a long moment, his eyes filled with something dark and intense. Then, slowly, he nodded.
"Then we'll have to be careful," he said quietly, his voice like velvet. "No more risks. No more mistakes."
Sakura nodded, her breath catching in her throat as the full weight of what they were about to do settled over her. They couldn't afford any more slip-ups. But now that they had crossed this line, there was no turning back.
Kakashi stood up, leaving enough money to cover the bill, his movements calm and deliberate. Then he turned to her, his eyes locking onto hers with a quiet intensity. "Let's go."
Sakura followed him out of the café, her pulse racing. The night air was cool against her flushed skin as they walked in silence, side by side, their steps in sync. But the tension between them was palpable, every glance, every breath filled with unspoken desire.
They were playing with fire, and they both knew it. But neither of them could stop.
