The sun had dipped slightly in the sky, casting golden shadows across the stone paths leading to the grand palace gates. Namjoon, Jin, and Jungkook approached the royal grounds after their long journey, weary but filled with a sense of resolution. The palace, with its towering spires and intricate carvings, seemed almost overwhelming to Jungkook, who had never imagined himself stepping foot in such a place. He clutched Jin's hand tightly, his knuckles white, seeking comfort from the only person who seemed to understand the storm swirling inside him.
"Are you ready?" Jin whispered softly to Jungkook as they passed the last checkpoint. "It might be overwhelming, but don't worry. I'll be right here."
Jungkook nodded, but his heart was pounding in his chest, his breath shallow. This was not just any homecoming for him—it was the first time he'd face the family he never knew existed, and deep down, he feared their rejection. What if they don't accept me? His mind kept running in circles, fear tightening its grip on his small frame.
As they stepped into the grand hall, they were greeted by Namjoon's grandfather, the eldest of the royal family. His wrinkled face broke into a wide smile when he saw them. He had always been a gentle figure, and now his arms opened wide as he approached Namjoon. "There you are, my boy! You've returned!"
Namjoon smiled faintly, allowing his grandfather to pull him into a warm hug. But his eyes flickered toward Jungkook, unsure how to introduce him.
The elderly man's gaze fell upon the small boy standing beside Jin, and his eyes twinkled with curiosity. "And who's this?" he asked, leaning down to get a better look at Jungkook. "He's as pretty as a picture! Is he someone new?"
Before Namjoon could answer, Jin stepped forward, his tone gentle but firm. "Grandfather, this is Jungkook. He's... someone important."
Jungkook felt the weight of everyone's gaze on him and shifted nervously on his feet. He wasn't used to such attention, and although the old man's smile was kind, the pressure of being in this unfamiliar place made his stomach churn.
Namjoon's mother was the next to approach. Her regal presence filled the room, and she studied Jungkook with a keen eye. As she drew closer, her expression softened, but there was a glimmer of recognition in her eyes, as if something about the boy tugged at her memory. She paused, frowning slightly. "There's something familiar about him," she murmured, more to herself than anyone else. "Who is he, really?"
Jin, sensing the growing tension, stepped in again. "Jungkook's been living with us for some time. He's... special." He exchanged a glance with Namjoon, silently communicating that they would need to explain more later.
Before any more questions could be asked, Namjoon's grandfather look down and smiled warmly at Jungkook, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "Well, special or not, he looks like family to me. Just like Namjoon and Jin, he has the look of someone who belongs here."
Jungkook's heart swelled with unexpected emotion. Family. It was a word he had always longed to hear in reference to himself. For the first time since entering the palace, he felt a flicker of hope. But it was a fragile hope, teetering on the edge of his fear.
Before Jungkook could fully process these feelings, a lively commotion filled the hall. The doors swung open, and Yoongi, Taehyung, Jimin, Hoseok, and Y/N entered, their faces lighting up when they saw Namjoon and Jin. They rushed forward, their excitement palpable as they gathered around the couple.
"Welcome back!" Yoongi said, his usual calm demeanor softened with genuine warmth. "It's about time you returned."
Jimin's eyes sparkled with curiosity when he noticed Jungkook standing beside Jin. "Who's this?" he asked, his tone bright as ever. "A new friend?"
