Days passed peacefully at the vacation house, and Jungkook had made a habit of visiting Jin and Namjoon regularly. The warmth of the home, the gentle companionship of Jin, and even the occasional interactions with Namjoon had brought Jungkook a new sense of belonging. It was a stark contrast to the cold, isolated life of the palace. Here, he felt free, cherished, and slowly, the darkness inside him seemed to settle into a quiet hum, less volatile, less threatening.
The days began to blend together in a routine that felt comfortable. In the mornings, Jin would prepare breakfast, and Jungkook would often join him in the kitchen. One particular morning, Jin was kneading dough for bread when Jungkook wandered in, his hair still tousled from sleep.
"Good morning," Jin greeted with a warm smile. "Did you sleep well?"
Jungkook nodded, his lips curving into a shy smile. "I did... Can I help with anything?"
Jin's eyes sparkled with delight. He had grown fond of the boy, and every time Jungkook showed interest in helping or learning something new, it warmed his heart. "Of course! Why don't you help me with the dough? We're making bread today."
Jungkook eagerly joined him at the counter, watching as Jin demonstrated how to knead the dough. His hands were smaller, less skilled, but Jin guided him patiently, showing him how to press the dough just right.
"Like this," Jin said, his hands gently covering Jungkook's to guide his movements.
Jungkook looked up at Jin, a sense of warmth flooding him. "I've never made bread before," he confessed quietly.
"Well, there's a first time for everything," Jin replied, his voice soft but full of encouragement. "And you're doing great."
They continued working together, the simple act of making food becoming a moment of quiet bonding. As the dough rose, Jin turned to Jungkook, wiping a bit of flour off his cheek. "How about we go to the garden while we wait for the bread to bake?"
The garden behind the vacation house had become a sanctuary for both Jin and Jungkook. It was a small patch of greenery, but it was full of life-flowers blooming, vegetables growing, and the peaceful hum of nature all around.
Jin had always loved gardening, finding solace in tending to the earth. Jungkook, on the other hand, had never had the chance to do such simple, grounding tasks in the palace. But now, as he dug his hands into the soil, planting seeds alongside Jin, he felt a sense of peace that was entirely new to him.
"You know," Jin began, gently patting the soil around a newly planted flower, "gardening is a lot like taking care of people. It takes patience, care, and love to help things grow."
Jungkook looked up at him, intrigued. "Like taking care of me?" he asked softly, his voice tinged with vulnerability.
Jin smiled warmly, his gaze softening as he nodded. "Yes, just like taking care of you."
Jungkook's heart swelled with an emotion he hadn't felt in a long time-something close to love. He didn't say anything, but he continued to work beside Jin, feeling the warmth of the sun on his back and the gentle guidance of Jin's presence.
In the afternoons, Jungkook would often help Jin with the household chores. He had never been asked to do such things in the palace-there, servants handled everything. But here, in this small, cozy home, Jungkook found joy in helping with even the simplest of tasks.
One afternoon, as they were cleaning the windows, Jungkook turned to Jin with a thoughtful expression. "Why do you do all of this yourself? Don't you have people to help?"
Jin chuckled softly, wiping a streak of dirt from the glass. "I like doing things on my own. It makes this place feel like home. And... it gives me time to think."
