WARNING: *very graphic injury experience, blood, puking, etc. But Kix is so sweet.*
Bang. Dirt and debris fly everywhere. You crouch over a trooper, trying to block him from more debris. When the dust clears, you finish bandaging his leg.
Another medic runs over to help the trooper up. He's done fighting for the day, more like the week.
You stand up, and after nodding to the other medic, run hunched over, deeper into the battlefield.
Sniper shots appear out of nowhere. You dodge a few, lucky misses.
Darkness.
You open your eyes to an unbelievable pain and brain fog. You squint. Someone hunches over you.
"Stay with me!" The figure tells you.
"Kix?" You manage to croak out. Your eyes clear up a little bit. It is Kix. He has his arm... on you? You glance down and immediately look up to the sky. Kix is putting pressure on your wound. The clothes around stomach have been stripped away. You don't even want to know how bad the wound is.
Kix notices your panicked breathing and moves to sit on his knees closer to your head. He hovers over your face, "Just look at me. That's it." It really does help looking at him. You feel less sick, slightly.
"Don't look away from my eyes, okay?" Kix says softly. He bends down to move some debris from your wound. You stare at his brown, concentrated eyes as he works. He really is the best medic in the GAR.
You scream out in pain. Kix immediately hovers over your face again, looking you in the eyes. "It's going to be okay. Almost done." He glances back at your wound, cleaning it up a bit before reaching for a bacta patch.
You breathe in and out, feeling very light-headed and like you might puke at any moment. But you keep your eyes focused on Kix like it's the most important mission of your life.
Kix applies the bacta patch. "Lie still." He sits back, cleaning off his bloody hands. "You got hit pretty hard back there." He chuckles, "But you'll be just fine after a lot of rest."
Kix meets your gaze and gives you a soft smile. You stare back, the sickness in your gut fading for just a moment.
Kix reaches for a roll of bandages, "Can you sit up?" He waves the bandages as an explanation. You nod and attempt to sit up, only for the weight of exhaustion and pain to send you back to the ground. You feel a hand on your back and on the back of your neck as Kix catches you and lifts you up to a sitting position. You're wrapped in his arms. His nose is inches from yours.
You stare into Kix's eyes as his hands move down to your stomach. He wraps you up, moving one arm between you and one arm behind your back in swift, fluid motions.
Kix finishes bandaging you and looks you back in the eyes. "Do you need another stim?" You look away from Kix, thinking about it. The pain comes flooding back. You violently lurch in his arms to avoid puking on him. He shifts besides you, rubbing an arm on your back, "It's okay. Breathe." Tears spill out of your eyes as your body tries to rid itself of everything it can.
Kix whispers in your ear, "Breathe." You obey him, not realizing your body was a holding a breath. Kix continues to rub circles on your back as he injects a stim.
You look back at Kix, tears streaming down your face. You sob into his arms. Kix leans his forehead against yours, his hand wandering up into your hair. You stare at his lips, heaving as you cry in his arms. "Everything's going to be okay. I know it's scary, but I also know how strong you are." You smile through the tears. Kix closes his eyes and presses his lips to your cheek. Your eyes flutter close at his soft touch.
Kix pulls his lips back, his forehead still pressed against yours, "Plus, I need my best medic to heal up quickly." You let out a small laugh. More tears escape your eyes. You tilt your head closer to Kix's lips. It's like his presence seems to take away the pain.
Kix meets you halfway and gently presses his lips to yours. His lips slide into place as he gives you a small, tender kiss. You savor the moment.
Much too soon, Kix pulls away. He hovers just over your lips. "I'm taking you to evac, okay?" You close your eyes, feeling his breath on your face. You nod slightly.
Kix stands up and puts his hands underneath your armpits. He hoists you to your feet. You wobble in place, but Kix catches you before you can fall over. One of his arms wraps around your back and the other holds your hand that's draped over his shoulder.
Kix walks you to the evac LAAT. You think about Kix. Was he just comforting you? Or did he really mean it when he said you were his best medic? You smile anyway, the effects of the stim settling in. Whatever is going on between you and Kix, you're excited to see what'll happen.
