Set during Bad Batch era. Apologies from the author for if the slow dancing isn't accurate bc I have no experience.

You uncomfortably roll around in your bed. You roll back over to the other side. Ugh. You get out of bed. What a humid planet. May as well get up for the day.

You currently work on the planet Teth with other rebels and a bunch of clones. You love working with them. After the Empire invaded your planet and destroyed your entire way of life, you'd like nothing better than to fight back. You're just thankful that a captain as great as Rex happens to be one of the top in command.

You get dressed and walk out of your room, through the hallways, and to the command center. The command center connects to everything in this place. Have to get through it to get anywhere. You walk in and spot Rex hovering over a holo-projector. You check your chrono. 0500? He's up this early? And working?

You walk past him, waiting to see if he'll acknowledge you. He doesn't seem to notice. You make a loop around him and circle back to stand at his side. You cough politely. His head snaps up.

"Why are you up this early?" You ask him, genuinely concerned.

"Couldn't sleep." Rex looks back at the schematics.

You stare at him as his eyes dart around the holo-projector. His serious face looks more tired with every passing second.

"Um... can I get you some caf?" You ask, not wanting to interrupt his thought process.

Rex slowly turns his head towards you. He looks like he hasn't slept in weeks. He probably hasn't. He gives you a small smile, "Thanks."

You send him back a small smile. Hopefully he'll get some sleep later tonight at least. His dark circles seem to be growing, and he hunches over like he might fall asleep standing up.

"I'll come with you." Rex's voice breaks you out of your thoughts. He turns off the holo-table.

You smile and guide the way to the kitchen. It's a small kitchen, very run down. Much like the entire base. The kitchen has a small stove, not very much counter space, a fridge, and some small tables for people to eat. It's dark and dingy.

You walk up to the caf pot and grab two mugs.

Behind you, Rex rubs his palms over his eyes. He mutters, "Want to drink those outside?"

You beam and turn your head to look at him, "Sure." You finish pouring the caf and hand him his mug. He guides you down the hall and outside.

It's still mostly dark out. You and Rex walk down a small dirt path, past a clone on watch duty, until you reach an open area behind some large stones. It has a breathtaking view of the planet's jungles beneath you.

Rex sits down with his back leaning up against one of the large stones. You sit beside him, cradling your caf in your hands. Rex takes a sip.

"Thanks for this." Rex raises his mug in the air. "I sure needed it."

You laugh, "What you need is more sleep."

Rex looks down at the mug in his hands, and whispers softly, "I know."

You tear your eyes away from Rex's tired, yet soft face, as you take in the jungle below you. The echo of birds chirping reaches your ears. You stare into the distance to see the soft glow of pinks and oranges brush across the horizon.

"It's beautiful." Rex says, noticing your gaze and slightly open mouth. You quickly glance at him, nodding, "I never come out here this early." You glance back and forth between Rex's eyes. Rex gives you a soft smile before glancing back down at his mug. You stare at his mug, too, a question dancing around in your mind. You decide to ask, "When was the last time you slept, Rex?"
