I blink my eyes a few times realizing I must have passed out the second my head hit the pillow. A beam of light on my face told me the sun was still up. I let out a small yawn and stretched my legs a little.

"Awake, beautiful?" My head snapped towards an unexpected visitor. Darius sat with his legs crossed in a chair facing the bed. I watched as he took a sip of his crystal glass of dark red blood. He brought the glass down and licked his red stained lips, showing off the tip of his fangs.

"How long have you been there?" I sat up from the bed looking at him with wide eyes. My hand shoots up to my neck trying to feel for any puncture holes.

"Oh don't act like that, I would do nothing like that." Darius said looking slightly offended that I would think he would take advantage of me in an unconscious state. "And I've been here roughly twenty minutes after you got here."

"So you've been just sitting there watching me sleep the entire time?" I was a little creeped out, but tried to keep calm on the outside.

"It's a vampire thing." He said it like that explained away everything. He took another sip of his glass, watching me.

"Vampires watch people sleep?" I raised an eyebrow at him.

"No, we don't just watch over anyone. Only if they have a mortal lover, it's more of a— instinctive feeling." I nodded along to his explanation, but it still didn't make much sense. Maybe I was just not educated enough in the supernatural realm? Well I wasn't educated in general.

"You didn't eat much at breakfast? Shall I have the staff to make you something?"

"Oh no, I'm fine." I look up, meeting his gaze. There was a long pause, maybe because we didn't know what to say to each other.

"I talked to Cassius, he'll warm up to you. Just give him time." He uncrossed his legs then recrossed them with the leg that was on the bottom was now on the top.

"I understand his frustration, I'm a simple peasant boy and you guys are the crown princes." Suddenly there was a voice coming from the corner by the door.

"Just because we were born a prince doesn't mean you can't become one." I looked up surprised to see Atticus was leaning against the door. The oldest son came closer to the bed.

"Brother! How long have you been there?" Darius cheered with a raised glass. Atticus looked at his brother and simply ignored him, making Darius pout. He grabbed my hand and kissed the back of my hand. His eyes were intense with an emotion I wasn't used to. All I knew was hate in people's eyes.

"Cassius acts like a damn knows it all, I would love to see you knock him down a peg or two. Show him he was wrong, then make him feel honored to stand next to you." Atticus rubbed the back of my hand with his thumb, it was comforting. I didn't realize how much I needed that at this exact moment. I nodded and bit my inner lip causing the old wound to burst open again. Atticus gripped my chin hard and looked me deeply in the eyes. His thumb softly pulled my bottom lip away from my teeth. It felt a little sting when he rubbed his thumb directly on my wound. He let go of my chin and brought his bloody thumb to his lips. He kept eye contact as he licked his thumb clean.

"Hey! What the hell? You told me, I get first taste!" Darius stands up from his chair.

"Then you should have been faster," Atticus said in a monotone voice looking at him in boredom. Darius looked towards me with puppy eyes.

"Beautiful, can I have a tiny taste?" Darius asked as inched closer and eventually sat on the bed next to me. I looked over at Atticus, I was feeling a little unsure.
