Chapter 9: The Victory

"Blue, It's your turn." Skyler holds up the black leather boots, mostly facing them towards Atticus. His face remained the same, no emotions as he looked at the boots. Skyler started to doubt himself a little. He grabbed the red book and held it up so Cassius could see the golden lettering. Skyler's hands started to shake, making him grip the book harder in hopes it helps steady his arms.

      After a few seconds he puts the book down and grabs the dagger for Darius. He lays it in both hands before unwrapping it from its blue cloth. He slide the dagger out of its sliver holster. The blade shines in the light making Darius smile. He loved his blades and Skyler just so happened to pick the 100 year dagger. It's rumored to have taken 100 years to make and it will take 100 years to break.

     "Purple your turn." Skyler felt a huge relief knowing the test was now over. All eyes where now off of him. He looks over a purple to see them holding up a coffee mug for the first prince.

     'Maybe they know something I don't?' He thought to himself, perhaps Purple knows the triplets personally? He looks towards the king surprised with his facial expression. His face was twisted like he swallowed a lemon, he was confused, but he didn't say anything. The king looked towards his son then toward Purple.

     Purple proceeded to show the second Prince a compass and a steak knife for the third Prince. A quiet laugh was heard from Skyler's right. Skyler whips his head to the right to see who laughed. Whoever it was quickly stopped laughing, but the king still looked upset. His cold eyes narrowed in on someone Skyler could not tell from the angle.

     "Miss. Montgomery please escort Pink out." The king said with his eyes locked on pink. A maid soon came and walked over to her.

    "What! No!" Pink was clearly upset, but she broke the number one rule- No Talking. Skyler's eyes snapped towards Pink and then back to the king not sure what he would do.

     "Out now!" The kind pointed towards the big double doors as he rose from his throne.

     "BUT it's not fair!" She stomped her foot reminding Skyler of a child not getting the newest and shiny of toys. Skyler started to think she was the daughter of a high-ranking official, she might even be a princess from a different kingdom. The maid grabbed her by the arm making her freak out further.

     "Don't touch me with your filthy hands!" She ripped her arm from the maid's grasp, causing the maid to almost stubble to the ground. Skyler watched on in horror, he couldn't believe what he was watching. Being disrespectful in front of the king could mean a death sentence.

     "Guards!" I looked towards the queen to see she was now stepping in. Two knights grabbed the girl by the arms and forcibly dragged her towards the exit. She started to drag her feet and look at the king with rage-filled eyes.

     It wasn't until the large doors shut did the mood shift, It was still tense, but there was no anger. Skyler felt grateful she was gone. She was the one who pushed him out of the way when he was trying to get the boots.

     "Now let's continue shall we, Black it is your turn." The king looked towards the girl dressed in black as she started to show up her items. A quill pen, a journal, and an old sword. Skyler started to feel a little nervous seeing Black's gifts. Nothing was said as the royals and the court started to write on a piece of paper. They all handed their paper back to the head butler and the butler started to count all the scores. The uneasy feeling in Skyler's stomach started to grow and grow.

     After a while, the butler gave a single piece of paper to the king. Skyler watched as the king's red eyes quickly scanned the paper. Skyler bit the inside of his cheeks giving his inner lip a break. His stomach continues to churn, if he had drank milk it would have turned into butter by now. Skyler's skin started to turn pale when the king finally looked up.

     "Boys you are dismissed, you are to get ready for lunch where you will meet your future bride." The king shoos the future princes away with a flick of the hands. Skyler watched as the second and third prince got up from their thrones but Atticus wasn't in a haste. His dark red eyes stared into Skyler's blue ones.

     It was almost like he was trying to study them, like he needed to remember them for a test. It was so intense Skyler looked away towards the door the other two left through. The king opened his mouth to say something but shut his lips once the first prince got up from his throne. All eyes were on Atticus as he left the throne room though the same doors his brothers left. Once the door shut securely the king stood with the paper in his hands.

     "I'm honestly quite surprised with the results," He laughs before clearing his throat. "Mrs. Lennon, please escort-" He paused and looked at all the contents that were competing for a chance at becoming queen of a mighty country. "Blue, to the bridal chambers." Skyler's eyes widened and he held his breath, his mind running rapidly trying to process his victory.

     "This is outrageous!" Skyler quickly looked over at White, the one who was brave enough to scream at the king. She ripped off her hood revealing shiny golden hair and started marching towards the king and queen. Knights quickly ran up to her as she kept screaming.

     "THIS ISN'T FAIR!" She cried out with a desperate voice as she was dragged away. Before the knights took her out of the room she ripped off her mask revealing a beautiful girl.

     "NO NO NO NO No no no no no!" She chanted as she sobbed, her voice started to get quieter and she stopped struggling as she was dragged away.

     "Right this way please." A soft voice came from Skylers left shoulder. His head whipped towards the voice, he looked into familiar eyes not believing what he was seeing was true.

     'It couldn't be! IT CAN'T BE!' Sklyer thought as he suddenly couldn't breathe quite right.

     I smile as I watch through Skylers eyes. My plan was all coming together perfectly with just a little more time until I could finally start to show my cards, I needed to wait for Skyler... I'll leave him be for now.
