Finn had never known his father very well. He was conceived on a short, surprise visit home, and by the time his father came around the next time, he was already two. His mother always called him her little miracle, but he often felt like a puzzle piece that just didn't fit. His father took care of them, though. Between his income and his mother's successful realty job, they were set for life. Finn would always be grateful for that, even if he never developed a strong relationship with his father.
Grieving for a parent he never really knew was an odd experience. Finn didn't know if he should cry or feel indifferent. He had a few good memories with him, enough to feel sad, but not enough to feel like his life had shattered. His mother had always refused to move around for his father. She wanted Finn to have a normal childhood in one place.
If only his father could see him now, Finn thought. Living with the love of his life and great friends. Still though, something felt like it was missing. He knew exactly what it was, but had no idea how to mend it. The semester would be starting soon and Finn wouldn't be attending. He absolutely despised the idea of just sitting around every day though, while everyone else worked towards something. He had always hated doing nothing, not working towards a goal. Just merely existing.
He wanted to keep doing photography, but he had been struggling for a few weeks to find the motivation. Every time he picked up the camera, he felt overwhelmed, a very unusual feeling for him. He prided himself on always being confident in himself and his abilities, an attribute owed to his outspoken, confident mother. The restless, stuck feeling was confusing, and Finn hated being confused.
He laid in bed, fidgeting with his new camera. It was three in the morning, and classes began in three days. He really wanted to formulate a game plan before then.
Sighing, Finn hopped out of bed and grabbed his laptop before heading downstairs. He wouldn't get anything down lying in bed. He flicked on the light to the basement and settled in at the desk. He loved what Sophie had done with the place, it would be a shame not to put it to use more. He smiled, thinking about his gorgeous girl. She had grown so much since they first came here and he was so proud of her. Just the way she had stood up to him at the Halloween party was incredibly attractive. He felt so lucky having her and the guys by his side, even if he didn't care for the latter at first. They were growing on him. They were a family, the fullest one he had ever had.
Finn propped his head on his hand and stared blankly at the laptop screen. Now what? He frowned and picked up his camera again, toying around with it. He flipped through pictures he had taken on Christmas of Sophie, the guys, his mother.
"Can't sleep?"
Finn's head shot up to see Chase standing at the bottom of the stairs. He relaxed and shook his head. Chase plopped into the chair next to him and the two of them were silent. They hadn't talked much since the shower with Sophie. Finn found him attractive, but with everything going on the past few weeks they just never got the time to talk about what happened. He didn't know what the dynamic was between the two of them. They both had control issues and tended to clash. Finn looked over at Chase and studied him. "You're a film major, right?"
Chase nodded skeptically. "Yeah, why?"
Finn fidgeted with the camera. "What are you going to do with that?" Chase scowled and Finn sighed. "Sorry, sometimes my words come out a little asshole-ish. I meant... I don't know."
Chase smirked. Finn disliked how observant he was. He saw everything and it made him feel exposed. "Are you asking me about my hopes and dreams?", he joked. Finn rolled his eyes, ready to drop this conversation entirely, but Chase sobered up and continued. "I don't know. I know I want to make movies, but I'm not really sure how to get there. I like creating stories, but I'm not sure I have the skills to actually make a movie."
