On his bedside table there was a vase of aloe, a symbol of protection and healing, like the ones her mother grew in the garden.
That vase had become a memorial to what had recently happened in their family. Since his sister had returned home, broken by that terrible story, he had never been the same.
The bond between them, already strong as twins, had become a silent oath. He watched her closely, ready to intervene.
When she smiled again, the world lit up for him. Protecting her had become his mission, his only certainty.
