Gon had nothing to do while he was waiting for Killua to be released from his confinement. He just wandered around Japan. He found a forest and immediately began exploring it. He jumped from tree to tree, rock to rock. Hey, I'm getting a hang of this! Gon realized, as his body got more adjusted to how this place felt. He'd been able to visit Killua one last time before he was put on something called 'temporary detainment', or something. Gon wasn't sure what that meant exactly, but he wasn't supposed to visit Killua until his week was up. I hope Kalluto is doing alright as well.
Kalluto was in Japan too, although he was staying with Killua for that week. It's not fair! Why does Kalluto get to be with Killua but I can't? He grumbled internally, as he navigated the forest. At least I found this really cool forest! Sure, cities were fun to explore. But Gon preferred being out in nature. As he was wandering aimlessly around in the forest, he caught sight of some muddy footprints. Gon paused, glancing around. Why is there someone out here all alone? Gon thought, deciding to follow the messy footprints. Gon began following them curiously, wondering if they were lost. There wasn't anything out here as far as he could tell.
Wait, I hear something. Gon realized, causing him to pause. There was a thudding noise coming from the distance as if a large creature was trekking across the earth. As Gon made his way towards it, he gradually realized the footsteps were leading the same way. Is it some kind of magical beast? Gon thought hopefully, he hadn't seen any since he'd come to Japan. Gon peeked through some bushes at the edge of a clearing, observing the scene before him. An earthquake seemed to have happened, debris scattered over the ground as if there'd once been a house there. A large creature made of earth standing over the mess. It dug its claws into the debris, gently pulling it back piece by piece.
Gon was fascinated by the creature. I don't think it's hostile, I wonder what it's doing. He thought, emerging from the bush and making his way over. The mud creature paused for a moment and turned to face him, letting out a soft grunting noise. Gon stared up at it curiously for several moments. "Why are you digging?" He questioned, eyes going to the pile of wood, stone, and other materials. The debris was far too small for the creature's giant clawed hands, obviously slowing its process. Before the creature could give any sort of response, Gon saw a movement underneath all that rubble.
Wait, is someone under there?
Gon quickly sprung into action, dragging the rubble away. "Hello? Can you hear me?" He called, in hopes that someone would respond. There was a feeble cough from underneath the pile, causing Gon to pick up the pace. It didn't take him long before he started to see an arm, cut and bruised, but twitching slightly. Aha! Gon grabbed a hold of the arm, slowly dragging the person out from underneath. It was a middle-aged man, looking to be in pretty bad condition. "He needs a doctor," Gon said, mostly to himself. What about that creature though? He turned his head towards the creature made of earth. "You were trying to save him, weren't you? You're a good magical beast right?" Gon asked. "Is there a doctor nearby?"
As soon as the words left his mouth, Gon suddenly heard a voice in his head. Follow the mud beast, quickly! Gon blinked, a tad bit confused. Why's a strange woman talking in my head? Nevertheless, he followed the mud creature quickly deeper into the forest. "Hey, were you talking in my head or was it something else?" Gon asked although it didn't respond. Must not be sentient. As he was hustling after the magical beast, suddenly he caught sight of a house through the trees. Gon quickly took off ahead of it, the man he was carrying needed medical attention and fast.
The trees quickly cleared out, and there were a few buildings. A woman in some sort of cat outfit was standing outside, looking a little anxious. "Kid! Bring him over here!" Gon rushed over, incredibly confused but eager to help the man. It was then he realized, that voice was familiar. It was the same one he'd heard in his head earlier! Gon brought the man, who was now unconscious, over to her. "Alright! What about-?" He glanced over his shoulder at the magical beast, only for it to literally disintegrate in front of his eyes.
Gon's own eyes widened in shock for a moment. "Did it just die!?" He exclaimed, slightly alarmed. The woman lifted the injured man out of his arms with a shake of her head. "Oh, no. It was just Pixie-bob's quirk." A quirk? Ohhh I get it! Quirks were like Hatsu abilities, except usually confined to one per person. He followed the cat lady into one of the buildings, peering at the inside curiously. "So, what's your name?" Gon asked her. The woman didn't respond at first, setting the man down on what Gon thought was a makeshift hospital bed, and grabbing some medicine things from a cabinet.
"You can call me Mandalay."
