After the explosion Bren woke to a burnt forest. Whatever remained of the village was destroyed. But the woman hadn't moved. She still lay in her curled up position, unmoving and still. The red hue and mist was gone.

In his right hand he held the sword. Now that the mist had cleared he could properly see the sword. It was iron and four feet long and while he held it he wondered why it wasn't heavy. Why it was so light.

He didn't have time to ponder that question for long though, for men appeared out of the darkness of the burnt forest.

The men who appeared wore black armour and their faces were completely covered by their iron black helmets. The only colour on their bodies was a yellow and red crest painted on the chest of their armor.

Before Bren could react, two of the men came forward holding a large sack between their hands. Bren could have done something, logically he should have swung the iron sword in his hands to keep the men at bay. But he didn't do anything. The two men holding the sack approached.

Bren let them come although every fibre in his body told him to run. He let them come. They came closer and threw their sack around the sword ripping it out of Bren's hands. They bound it tightly and one of the men took the sack and rushed of into the darkness of the forest. The other turned to his men and in a booming and deep voice said, "All hail The One!"
