Eryx.

Wednesday Morning.

I knocked on Dr. Lee's door, the familiar wood grain a comforting sight. His warm voice invited me in.

As I entered, the calm atmosphere enveloped me, a respite from the darkness I'd been chasing.

"Ah, Eryx. Good morning," Dr. Lee said, standing from his desk.

I shook his hand, taking in his kind eyes. "Morning, Doc. Thanks for seeing me."

He gestured to the chair, and I sat, feeling a sense of relief wash over me.

Dr. Lee leaned against his desk, arms crossed, his expression inquisitive.

"What brings you here today, Eryx?" he asked.

"Vector's latest operation," I replied, my mind replaying the gruesome details. "I need your expertise."

Dr. Lee nodded thoughtfully, his eyes never leaving mine.

"I've reviewed the files. Their tactics are evolving."

"Evolution implies adaptation," I said, my thoughts racing. "What's driving it?"

"Desperation, perhaps," Dr. Lee suggested. "They're losing ground."

I shook my head. "Or gaining confidence."

Dr. Lee's expression turned somber, his eyes clouding.

"Either way, we must stay ahead."

I handed him a folder containing the latest intel.

"New testimonies, operational structure..."

Dr. Lee scanned the contents, his brow furrowed in concentration.

"This suggests a centralized figure, controlling the network."

"A kingpin," I muttered, my gut twisting with anger.

Dr. Lee looked up, his gaze piercing.

"Someone intelligent, calculating..."

"And ruthless," I finished, my jaw clenched.

Our eyes locked, a silent understanding passing between us.

The silence was heavy with unspoken determination.

I stormed out of Dr. Lee's office, the morning light doing little to dispel the darkness that had settled within me. The stairs creaked beneath my feet, echoing the rage building inside.

Vector's changes. Desperation or confidence? It didn't matter. They were still destroying lives.

I slammed the Subaru's door shut, the sound resonating through my tense body. Starting the engine, I dialed Reno.

"Reno, interrogate Vector. Find out who their kingpin is," I growled.

Reno's response was measured. "Working on it, Eryx. Vector's not talking... yet."

My grip on the wheel tightened:

Break Vector.

"Use every tactic, Reno. I want that kingpin's name," I ordered.

Reno's tone turned resolute. "Already on it. I'll get it out of Vector."

Traffic blurred around me as I drove, my focus laser-sharp.

Vector had taken enough. Time to take their operation down.

My phone buzzed, breaking the silence. Asher's name flashed on the screen.
