Eryx
I stood outside the interrogation room, taking a deep breath to calm my nerves. Lena was inside, waiting for me. I had a feeling she wasn't going to make this easy.
I walked in, my eyes locking onto hers. "Lena, we know you're involved in human trafficking," I said firmly, taking a seat across from her. "It's time to come clean."
Lena raised an eyebrow, a smirk playing on her lips. "I don't know what you're talking about," she said, her voice dripping with innocence.
I sighed, pulling out a folder filled with evidence. "Don't play dumb, Lena. We have proof. You're going down for this."
Lena's smirk faltered for a moment, but she quickly regained her composure. "I want a lawyer," she said, her voice firm.
I leaned back in my chair, my eyes never leaving hers. "You're not getting a lawyer, Lena. Not yet, anyway. First, you're going to tell me everything I want to know."
Lena's eyes flashed with anger, but she remained silent, her lips pressed together.
I pulled out my phone, glancing at the screen. I had a missed call from Adeline. I ignored it, focusing on the task at hand.
"Lena, let's start with something simple," I said, my voice firm. "Who's the kingpin behind the human trafficking ring?"
Lena's eyes seemed to gleam with amusement, but she remained silent, refusing to answer.
I leaned forward, my eyes locked onto hers. "Lena, you're not in a position to play games. We have evidence, and we're going to take you down. The only way you can save yourself is by cooperating."
Lena's expression didn't change, but I saw a flicker of fear in her eyes. She knew she was in trouble.
"Find it yourself," she spat, her voice venomous.
I raised an eyebrow, intrigued. Lena was hiding something, and I was determined to find out what.
The interrogation was far from over.
As I left the interrogation room, my phone buzzed with another call from Adeline. I hesitated for a moment, feeling a pang of guilt. But I knew I couldn't talk to her right now. I had to focus on the case.
I silenced the call and headed back to the main room, where my team was waiting for me.
"Any luck with Lena?" Ryker asked, looking up from his screen.
I shook my head. "She's not talking. But I think she's hiding something."
Asher spoke up, his voice still tinged with anger. "We need to find out what she's hiding."
"I agree," I said, my eyes scanning the room. "Let's get back to work. We need to find a way to crack Lena's shell."
The team nodded, refocusing on their tasks. I took a deep breath, pushing aside my personal demons. I had to solve this case, no matter what it took.
As I delved back into the evidence, my phone buzzed again. Adeline's name flashed on the screen. I ignored it, my heart heavy with guilt.
But I knew I couldn't avoid her forever.
I spent the rest of the day poring over the evidence, searching for any connection to Lena's family. The team worked tirelessly, following up on leads and analyzing data. But as the hours ticked by, I couldn't shake the feeling that we were missing something.
As the sun began to set, I called it a day, exhausted. The team packed up their things, and we all headed our separate ways. I drove home, my mind still reeling with the case.
