Jessie's P.O.V
I woke up slowly, the weight of Allie's body pressed softly against mine, the warmth of her skin soothing me like nothing else could.
The soft glow of the New York morning sun spilled through the curtains, casting a golden light across the room. I blinked, my mind slowly catching up to the reality of the moment.
She was here, lying in my arms, her soft breaths steady and calm, her chest rising and falling against mine. The memories of last night flashed through my mind, making my heart race. The way her body had fit against mine, the way she whispered my name like it was a secret between us, the way we lost ourselves in each other over and over again until the early hours of the morning.
I let out a soft, contented hum at the memory.
For the first time in so long, I felt at peace, like the world had finally stopped spinning just long enough for me to breathe.
I glanced down at her. Allie's head was nestled into the curve of my shoulder, her hair spilling across the pillow, her lips slightly parted as she softly snored. The peaceful expression on her face made my chest tighten with an overwhelming sense of love. The thought that she was here with me, after everything, felt surreal.
Careful not to disturb her, I reached for my phone on the bedside table, squinting at the brightness of the screen. It was 9:30 a.m. I had no idea how much sleep we'd managed to get, but it didn't matter. I'd have stayed awake all night just to hold her if that's what she wanted.
A message caught my eye—Liam. A small smile tugged at the corner of my lips as I read it.
Just one character: '?'
I could picture him pacing in his apartment, worrying whether I was furious with him or not. He had helped Allie find me, something that could've easily sent me spiraling into anger.
But instead, I just felt gratitude. Liam had known. Without having to say a word, he'd known that I loved her, even when I hadn't been ready to admit it to myself.
I quickly typed a response.
'I love you, mate. All good here.'
I hit send and felt a quiet laugh escape me. I imagined his relieved sigh on the other end of that text.
Setting my phone back down, I turned my attention back to Allie, who stirred slightly against me, her body shifting as her eyes slowly blinked open. Her gaze met mine, still hazy with sleep, a shy, almost nervous smile appearing on her lips. My heart swelled at the sight of it.
"Good morning," I said softly, brushing a lock of hair away from her face.
She breathed in deeply, then exhaled slowly, her smile growing just a little.
"Good morning."
I could see the uncertainty in her eyes, the hesitation in her voice. Like she was still unsure if all of this was real, if I still wanted her here after everything. Her gaze flickered down, and she fidgeted slightly, as if she didn't know what to say next.
"So... last night was..." she began, her voice still thick with sleep, and I could sense her bracing for my response.
"Amazing," I finished for her, watching as the tension in her shoulders melted away.
I wasn't going to let her second-guess this, second-guess us.
Her smile softened, a hint of relief washing over her expression.
"Yeah, it really was."
I leaned down, pressing a soft kiss to her forehead before reluctantly sliding out of bed.
