Marceline continued to drag me from where my old class was towards the lunch room, where the lunch bell rung just on time. Like a bundle of ants scattering out of the ground in a horde, other students pour out of their classes, a mix of various dull and mundane colours blend together from the dead attire that the school forced upon the other students.

As I was dragged through the sea of students reluctantly, we finally make it to an isolated table, a rare sight for the school we attend. There sitting on the table was a boy around our age, although he seemed a bit more mature than most of the students in our class. He had short, wavy blond hair and gorgeous green or blue eyes that shined when the light hit them just right, he was kind of beautiful in some masculine way. The boy was currently picking at the school food. I get that, it's crap. I noticed that his clothing was a bit more colourful, not overbearingly obvious, but a nice blend of soft green and blue.

Marceline smiled brightly and leaned down a bit to make sure that the new boy's attention was caught before waving excitedly, "Hi! You're the new kid in my science class? I'm Marceline! Or Marcy, or Mare, whatever you want!" She exclaimed proudly. She was always one for socialism, but to me, it seemed like a waste of time. Surprisingly, the other boy looked up and acknowledged Marceline and I, yet I noticed that his eyelids widened slightly for a moment before going back to normal.

"I'm Percy. Nice to meet you." The blond boy answered her, a small smile adorning his lips that made it look almost like a smirk. He then looked over at me, as if expecting me to speak, which made me internally groan before putting on a smile, "August." Was all I sputtered before shifting my weight more onto my right leg, hiding my body behind Marceline. It was clear that Percy was a bit confused on the name choice, as if I chose the name for myself, for he commented on it in a sassy manner, "Like the season? Wow, that's original."

Two sentences in and I already hate him.

As if she was psychic, my sister only turned to give me a small smile before turning back to Percy, "Yeah. His favourite is actually spring, mine's autumn." Her voice is perfectly soothing in a clear attempt to regulate my urge to slap this new boy, she knew how I could act out, and in most ways, it helped. Percy only hummed and nodded again, something that he continuously did whilst Marceline was speaking. It was like he didn't even care for her or her words, and that itself was annoying.

I noticed that he repeatedly diverted his attention towards a group of girls who were giggling not too far away. Marceline and I both turned our heads as the giggling grew louder, and lo and behold, a group of beautiful girls were not only giggling at the two of us, but pointing. I could feel the blood rush to my cheeks as I realised that it was Casey Hernandez's little group of fakies were laughing at me and Marceline, probably mocking us for hanging around the new boy like he had anything actually interesting to show us.

Casey Hernandez is the definition as a two-faced liar who cried like a hyena whenever something didn't go her way, and her group of buzzing bees besides her were her mindless drones who are only really there to avoid being her next target. However, I noticed that there were a bit more girls than usual, which threw me off for a moment.

"What're you lookin' at, August? Hoping that little boy would be your boyfriend with you humpin' his leg like a needy puppy?" One of her little cronies cackled when they claimed that. That sentence made my already red cheeks almost glow. I bit my tongue hard, almost tasting the metallic liquid that escaped my tongue, and clenched my hands hard as I felt my nails dig into my palms. I hated them so much.

I saw Percy's eyebrows rise and he turned to me as if the sentence was true. God, I just wished that I could bury myself under the school's tiles and die right there. Marceline turned to me like an owner to a rabid dog, her eyes saying enough, 'Don't you dare.' And just like that, I obeyed silently by looking down.

Surprisingly, the giggling was cut short by Percy's voice seeping through, "You all sound like a pack of dying mutts if you're thinking about dogs." He stated as if it was a fact, confident in himself in what he said. That made the girls stop giggling, and now it was their turn to get humiliated. Before they could clap back with a pathetic rebuttal, I could see the teacher on duty staring at them disapprovingly, as if knowing they were doing. And just like that, they grumbled under their breaths and left reluctantly.

I think I was starting to like this kid.
