— August's POV —

As I set down my school bag and sat down on the uncomfortable sleeping bag that barely did anything for my butt, I pulled out my lunchbox and opened it up, my stomach growling for food, 'Shut up, you're getting fed.' I internally told my brain, but I knew that my body was just gonna kick me in my rear-end and not listen.

I ignored the obvious stares and started to open the Milo bar that I had packed, splitting it in half (but failing), so I handed the bigger piece to Marceline, whom was previously staring hungrily at my lunch. After giving her the piece, I started eating the bar like it was my last meal, forgetting about the kids who were now staring at me like an alien. I forget my manners when I'm hungry. I probably look like a wolf right now.

Then, a boy approached the both of us, he seemed around sixteen, maybe seventeen, I wasn't sure. He had curly brown hair, but it wasn't like mine, his was swirly and kept together, mine was more frizzy with a mix of curls. He had pretty eyes that reminded me of a dog's, but his most noticeable feature was a scar that gone down his right eye. It made him look like a villain in my book.

I gripped my lunchbox tighter, almost protectively, I am hungry as hell, and I don't share. Turns out the boy noticed that and gave a small smile to me, which made me shove the rest of the Milo bar into my mouth quickly. "Hey, I'm not hungry. No need to get so protective." The scarred boy teased me as he raised both his hands innocently, "Good, because I'm hungry." I hissed as I turned to Marceline in hopes that she'll back me up, but all I got was a glare to watch my tone. God damn it.

"I'm Luke. I'm sure you two are the new kids that Percy picked up from that school, right?" This boy, 'Luke', commented casually, like he was there with us the entire time, "I'm sure you guys have a lot of questions."

Damn right I did.

"How do you know us? Why the hell did Percy say we were 'demigods'? What do you want from us?" I snarled as I tried to get Luke to answer me. I hated being left in the dark, it was infuriating. I wasn't a 'demigod', nor did I like it here, there were too many kids.

Marceline jabbed my side again (when will she stop? I don't know) and gave an innocent smile to the brown eyed boy before turning back to me, whispering harshly, "Question the pretty boy slowly, Auggie."

Did she really just call this seventeen year old 'pretty boy'? Was something in that Milo bar?

I scoffed and rubbed my bruising side, then turning to Luke, who was still giving that charming look to both me and Marceline. "... How does Percy know us?" I asked with gritted teeth, my eyes piercing into Luke's. I'm starting to think that this whole demigod gimmick is just a way for my father to catch me and Marceline skipping.

Luke nodded and began to speak, his voice reminding me that he's older than me, "Chiron set out other half-bloods to schools in hopes of getting them to Camp Half-Blood before monsters could get you, you two were lucky that the smell from those highschoolers hid your scent, or else you both would've been monster lunch."

Okay, woah, that's a lot.

Marceline turned to me, as if expecting me to have the answers to this guy's monologue. Scent? What are we? Wolf cubs? What an obscure thing to say to someone who's thinking that the candy bar they just had was drugged.

Luke had just sighed and shrugged his shoulders, seemingly giving up on trying to explain his confusing story. All I really got from it was that the other highschoolers stunk so bad that they hid us from something. See? Told you I wasn't overreacting about them, mom. "Let's get you two something to eat before you demolish your whole bag." Luke chuckled when he noticed me going into a different snack in my lunchbox.

After packing away our things and following the older boy, me and Marceline were seated with some other kids at what seemed to be some pavilion of some sorts. Food was served, some mac and cheese and other stuff I wasn't used to, but I didn't hesitate to dig in again like it was my last meal. However, I subconsciously saved another serving and tipped the rest onto Marceline's plate.

I tried to smile at Marceline, but I noticed that her attention was more on Luke, which made me huff in annoyance. We barely know the guy, and she's talking to him like it was a casual walk in the park. Luke seemed interested in the conversation however, it's like they've completely zoned me out of their bubble.

This made me feel jealous? No, insecure's a better word for it. I hated being abandoned, especially by someone who I didn't like. "Marcie... Can we do something?" I kind of complained, which came out more of like a whine if anything. It was hard not to when you're bored out of your mind. Marceline then turned to me quickly, clearly eager to continue her 'interesting' conversation with Luke, "August...! Just- Go for a walk, or something." Marceline lectured as she stepped on my foot subtly.

Seriously? Where the hell was I supposed to go in this place?

I groaned and rolled my eyes, "See you, lovebirds." I bid goodbye with a monotoned expression, getting up from my seat and walking off, leaving the two alone. What am I supposed to do here? I don't know anybody here, I don't like anybody here, and I'm so confused on what the hell is going on. I feel as lost as a shark out of water.

"August! There you are! I got you and Marceline's camp clothes!" I heard a familiar voice call out to me, and a recognisable set of blond hair made itself clearer when he walks up to me. I hold back a groan when I realise that it's Percy Jackson.

Zeus, if you're real, strike me down now.
