— Percy's POV —
A few weeks have flown by with the twins, and things have been interesting to say the least. Marceline was hanging out with Luke more often than not to the point where Annabeth was questioning on if she was being replaced, which made me have to reassure her that it wasn't like that. However, August seemed to be growing more bored by the week.
Hopefully, Capture The Flag can change all of that. The Hermes Cabin (including me) had been training for the day like never before. We were going to beat Ares's children. Everyone was currently in the training grounds, putting on our armour before beginning. Annabeth was currently getting us all ready, pairing us with multiple people who would work well together. I saw August automatically move to stand next to Marceline, but Annabeth had cut him off before getting a chance, "Sorry, Cullen, but your sister's staying with me and Luke to protect our flag. You'll be off with the rest to find the other team's flag." The blonde commanded, leaving no room for argument as she left with Marceline and Luke.
That left August stunned, and if looks could kill, I was pretty sure Annabeth and Luke would drop dead on the spot because of the frizzy haired boy. I watched as he stormed up to the armour stands and yank off a helmet, almost knocking the stand over, and shoving it on his head. I felt bad for him, having to watch your sister not realise you're on seperate teams because of a boy.
I lined up with the rest of the demigods and waited for the conch shell to blow, and when it did, the group dispersed. I followed August as he confusingly made his way to look for the flag on his own, not obeying Annabeth's orders to stick together. I only followed to keep him safe, obviously. The unclaimed boy weaved around some trees and bushes with his sword in hand, and continued marching.
I heard him curse under his breath while he walked, seemingly too distracted by his goal to notice me follow him. Man, he's a goner if he can't hear me behind him, how will he face against a monster? I continued to stalk the boy until I heard a thunder crack just west of me, and it appeared to have caught August's attention too, for he drew his sword, as if expecting someone to show themselves. Then came the downpour; Rain showered us, and the yells of the others were heard.
Seems like Zeus was watching us and decided to have a little fun. What a surprise.
Without even realising what was happening, I watched as August sped off to where the sounds of people were coming from. Bad idea! Go get the flag! I internally groaned before running after him, almost slipping over the now wet Earth. The brunet kid ran like the wind until he saw people, to which attacked straight ahead, not waiting for someone to call him in.
August was swinging his sword wildly, but it was clear it was too light for him to control properly, for it kept almost slipping out of his hand despite the grip. He fought like a wild animal until a daughter of Ares sliced his wrist, leaving a cut that'll definitely leave a mark. The thirteen year old hissed in pain before raising both his arms to somehow soften a blow to the face, which thankfully just made him fall to his knees.
I knew I should've helped, but Annabeth said to just watch August, not interact with him. I watched as the boy looked down for anything to defend himself with, and thankfully, a battle axe laid beside him that was previously abandoned by an Ares child he had beaten beforehand. I could only stare as he grabbed the weapon and kick his opponent in the shins, making them stumble back. August rose from the ground, and before he could land a blow, a loud voice cried out,
"You're dead, Cullen!"
And there in the distance, Clarisse stood proudly with her spear in hand, her eyes stalking August like he was a deer she was about to shoot. The unclaimed child seemed to have been startled by the voice and realise that the daughter of Ares was after him. He held the stolen axe in his hands and prepared a fight against Clarisse. Now either this boy just loves to piss off Clarisse or had a death wish.
The next thing happened so fast. Clarisse and August were fighting, both swinging their weapons like there was no tomorrow. August was fighting like he's known how to fight his entire life, and I swore I could hear him laughing, but that couldn't be, he was fighting Clarisse! Why would he be laughing?!
After they fought for around two minutes, Clarisse had managed to knock the younger boy to the ground, where he landed with a hard thud. I couldn't even move my feet to stop her. The rain seemingly hurled down on all of us, making this even more dramatic than it has to be. Clarisse grinned as she clenched her fist, almost as if she was going to punch August's face in, and just as I thought she was gonna get her hit in, an arrow flew by her head, leaving a cut on her cheek.
I turned to where the arrow flew from and was met with dark hazel eyes narrowed like a hawk. Marceline. I could only admire on how fierce she looked as she drew another arrow from her back bag and point it directly at Clarisse, the look of familiar fear now seeming like a stranger on her face. The storm raged on to the point where it was getting hard to stand, but Marceline stood there like it wasn't even present.
"Apollo! Grant my wish, and let me strike down this demigod!"
Marceline drew her quiver back and fired it at Clarisse's shield, but what happened next was something I wasn't expecting, but I don't think anyone expect this. When the arrow hit Clarisse's shield, a crack of thunder roared through the sky, and a bolt of lightning came down on the daughter of Ares.
The silence that filled the camp was louder than the thunder that struck. Half of my brain was amazed at what just happened, but the other half wondered if Clarisse was even alive from something like that. After a long twenty seconds, the smoke cleared, and there stood a slightly fried Clarisse and an ash-faced August in the midst.
Then a soft glow came from where Marceline was standing, and when I turned to see what just happened, the storm roared even louder. There, right above Marceline's armoured head was a lightning bolt symbol. Gasps erupted from multiple campers, even from her brother. Chiron's voice cut through the stunned silence,
"Marceline Edwards, daughter of Zeus. Welcome to Camp Half-Blood."
