6. Secrets, lies and family

Isadora sat down in the staff room along with Carly and Charlotte,
"So tell us more about you"
"Well, I grew up in a small town about 4/5 hours away from here. I wanted to move away from that though, somewhere where I could be my own person" Isadora replies,
"Well I'm glad you did"
"Me too. Don't get me wrong I love my parents and friends. But at home I'm who my parents want me to be, not really me, you know?"

"How do you mean?" Charlotte asks,
"My father has always been very strict with what I can do, how I look in society. He came from a lot of money but he's very closed off about it all and his past. My mother is different, she's a lot more relaxed but she, I'm not sure. Since I moved here they seem a lot more uptight"
"Well I'm sure they just see you as a kid still, they probably just miss you a lot" Carly reasons.

Isadora thinks about it, she knows there is something more than just wanting her home.
"Yeah I know, I don't think it's moving that's got them acting weird though"
"What do you mean?" Should she tell them? Maybe they could give her some advice? They know more about the Knight family than she did after all.

"When I told them that I went out for this job and got it, they were so proud, until I told them where I was working"
"What?" Charlotte asks,
"My dad told me not to take it and come home but I want to be my own person" she replied,
"Why don't they want you working here?" Carly questions,
"The owner" Carly and Charlotte looked at each other like they understand,
"Ohhh" this confused Isadora even more. Was the owner that bad to everyone?

"What is it?"
"Have you met the owner?"
"No? What's the big deal with him?"
"You should ask autumn and Reece" Carly tells her,
"Or Mia" Charlotte adds.
"Your girlfriend Mia?"
"Yeah. Roger did blackmail her and force her into a relationship with Reece for 23 years"
"Oh my god that's awful"

"Wait so, do your parents know Roger?" Carly questions,
"My dad does. He said he's a bad person but that's it. Both my parents won't talk about it or what happened" she sighs,
"That's weird"
"Super weird. They've never been this cagey before or even kept secrets" Isadora replies. She just couldn't make out what was going on and it was driving her crazy.

"I wonder how your dad knows Roger. What if they were like friends?" Charlotte says,
"Roger doesn't have friends. He has associates" another voice said from behind. Isadora turned around to face the blonde in the doorway,
"Siobhan! What are you doing here?" Charlotte asks awkwardly
"Delivery service apparently" the woman rolls her eyes "the Halloween ball invitations are with Marjore, although I assume you will be Mia's plus one?"
"Yeah" the woman nods.

Siobhan turned her attention to Isadora
"And you are?"
"Isadora"
"Right" she nods before walking out. Isadora looks back at her friends,
"Who's that?"
"Siobhan, she's Roger's fiancé"
"Oh wow, she can't be much older than Autumn and Reece right?"
"I think she's younger than Reece"
"Wow" the three fall into a silence before Charlotte speaks up again.

"I shouldn't really gossip but..." the woman trails off,
"Spill it!" Carly squeals
"Mia told me that Siobhan seems to have gotten on well with one of the parents. They had a few meetings when she first started"
"Oh my god who?!"
"Nope, I've already said too much" the brunette sakes her head.

"Char you can't leave us like that!"
"Who started recently? Before the merger?" Charlotte asks, Carly thinks for a moment before her eyes widen.
"Oh my god. Vivian?!"
"I can neither confirm or deny"
"That's crazy. Do you think?"
"What?" Isadora was very confused
"Shibby has a friend?"

"She might not be as bad as you think" Isadora replies. Not everyone is that bad, right?
"Maybe. But she's done a lot of bad things" Charlotte replies
"So has Mia" Carly states,
"That's different. Mia was forced into that life by Roger"
"Who's to say Siobhan isn't going through the same? With the same man" Isadora suggests. Carly and Charlotte think for a moment,
"Oh..."
"I never thought about that"
"Remember you only know what people show on the surface, what's going on deep down is a different story"
"You're right" Charlotte sighs. Charlotte did feel bad. Maybe Siobhan wasn't as bad as she seemed. Maybe it was something else. Everyone thought Mia was evil before she told the truth about Roger.

"I usually am" Isadora smiles and the others laugh,
"Anyway my lunch break is nearly over, I have to get back to the room" Charlotte stands,
"Us too, see you later char"
"Bye!" The three separate as they head to their rooms.

Isadora and Carly were on their way to the baby room when Isadora noticed a child standing outside,
"Carly, who's that?" The gestures to the door,
"Never seen her before" the blonde replies. Isadora goes to open the door which startles the girl,
"Hello" the brunette smiles softly. The child backs away from her. Isadora could see she was scared and probably cold. Her clothes were ripped and she was dirty.

"It's okay, you're safe. My name is Isadora, what's yours?" The young girl doesn't say anything,
"Do you know where your parents are?" Carly asks and she shakes her head.
"Okay sweetheart. Carly can you go get Marjorie?"
"Okay" the teen runs back inside and Isadora kneels down,
"It's very cold out here, would you like to come inside?" The girl stood quiet for a moment before nodding.

Isadora had lead the girl towards the offices where Carly came out,
"Marjorie went out with Reece for lunch but Autumn is in her office"
"Okay" Carly knocks on the older woman's door,
"Autumn, we uh, we have a problem" the woman raises a brow and Isadora walks in with the girl.

Isadora sits her on the chair in the corner while she talks to Autumn,
"Who is that?"
"We don't know. She doesn't talk, we just found her outside"
"Okay. Carly call Marjore, she needs to get back here now" autumn told the teen who nods and walks out on her phone,
"I'll handle this, get back to work"
"Okay" Isadora nods and goes to meet Carly.

"Hello, I'm Autumn. Would you like me to get you something to eat or a blanket?" The girl nods. Who was she? What was she doing there?

...

Carly was now back in the baby room with Isadora doing handover with a parent,
"So uh, you like working here then?"
"Yeah I love working with the kids"
"Good good. Uh how old are you then?" The man asks,
"Seventeen" Isadora picked up on the weird vibe from the man,
"Ah right, you single?" Carly began to feel uncomfortable, which Isadora could see.

"I'm gonna stop you right there" the woman walked over to them,
"Excuse me?"
"You're excused. She is a miner. You're what, 40?"
"It's not illegal she's over 16" Isadora raised a brow, seriously?
"And I'm going to throw up. She is still a minor. So I suggest you back off before I do something not very child friendly" the woman warns,
"Was that a threat?"
"No. It was a promise. And I always follow through" the man looked her up and down before stepping back.

"Uh, I'm uh, I'm gonna go, come on Gigi" he picks up his daughter and quickly exits the room.
"Thank you" Carly turned to Isadora,
"No problem, but you should tell Marjore about him"
"I will do, thanks iz"

...

Kathy puts her phone down on the side table after receiving the message from Isadora,
"Isadora has been invited to the Knight family Halloween ball"
"Well you tell her she can't go"
"She's not a baby anymore Johnathan, she has a life of her own"
"She should not be involved with those people" the man replied.

"You used to be so close with Roger"
"We moved away for a reason"
"Maybe it's time she should know the truth. She is an adult now" the woman suggests but her husband quickly shut her down.
"No. You're not to tell Isadora anything, do you understand?"
"Alright alright. But she'll find out soon enough John, she's working with them now"

"I told her not to accept that job" the man shook his head,
"Well she didn't know who they were, apparently she's made some nice friend though, isn't that lovely?"
"She could have worked in any nursery" the man argues,
"Maybe it's just a coincidence"
"It's too risky. She can't find out the truth"
