The sun was just starting to rise in the sky, the clouds all shades of pinks and oranges. Amelia Roberts walked out of the bathroom with a sigh once more. First she thought she was just hungover, then maybe a sickness bug. But now after two weeks of drowsiness, sickness and loss of appetite she had a horrible gut wrenching feeling that it was something else. She had sat in denial for the past four days, hoping it would all go away. But her mind kept playing back to that night, her last period, the math added and the feelings were horribly strong.
Mia had gotten ready earlier than usual that morning. Luckily for her it was a Saturday and she didn't have to go to school. Normally she spent her weekends at the Knight family house but Reece and Autumn were at their cuisine's house for the weekend.
Mia's mother worked late nights and most of the time through the day aswell, she was working to keep herself and Mia afloat after the dint Mia's father left on their family. Mia's mother was physically and emotionally rarely there for Mia, as much as she worked for them, Mia sometimes just wished she would talk to her. Instead all the teen got was complaints and constant reminders of how terrible she was. Yet despite the fractured relationship, Mia loved her and would forever be grateful for her. She stayed when her father abandoned her, she worked to provide for them. She was still her mum, no matter how bad she would treat her daughter.
It was only a ten minute walk down to the little convenience shop. But the brunette could make it 20 as she slowly strolled through the park, taking in the scenery. She loved it. Just walking out in the fresh air, being away from all the chaos even for a short time. It was her escape.
However after she had picked up what she needed she just wanted to get home, so she took the short way through the alley and along the new building estates and was home quickly.
Mia sat on her bed with the box in her hand. What was she doing? Could she really be doing this? After fighting with herself in her mind the brunette sighed and made her way to the bathroom.
5 minutes to go.
In the first minute, Mia didn't even stand. She placed the test next to her on the sink and looked away. She sat there and stared at the wall.
In the second minute, she snapped herself out of it and stood, washed her hands and adjusted her skirt. She stared at herself in the mirror, tears threatening to fall. What if she was?No. This was all just an illness and she's being ridiculous. Pathetic really. So over dramatic. Right?
By the time the timer went off, the brunette couldn't look down, she kept looking into the mirror, glaring at the girl looking back at her. Is this who she had become?Closing her eyes tightly, she picked up the stick and held it in front of her. This could change everything. The girl slowly opened by her eyes.
"Oh my god"...
Mia thought back over the past few years. How much she had changed from that sweet innocent girl who loves nature and bike rides and colouring. The girl she was now, drinking and getting in trouble, covering the pain with make up and pretty clothes, that wasn't who she wanted to be. And now, she's standing in her bedroom, and her whole life is about to change.
The teenager had thought about kids, what her life would be like when she had them. She knew she wanted them, but there was always a sick thought in the back of her mind telling her she wasn't good enough. That she couldn't be a good mother.
She refused to let her child grow up the way she did, she would want only the best. Want him or her to feel safe and loved and happy always. With two parents who adored them and would protect them always. She knew Reece would be a good dad, and amazing one. He always looked after Autumn and he so genuine.
Reece had fallen a bit as he grew up, but was now trying to build something stable. Make something of himself that wasn't his father's name. Ever since he was little the boy knew it would just be him, Autumn and Mia alone against the world. And he would do anything and everything for them.
He had also thought about his own children one day, and he knew he could be a good dad. A supportive dad, not like his own. But to get to that point, he needed to succeed in something. So he worked hard at school and tried to change his life around. Now even thinking about college.
Mia knew how hard he was working. And this news would test him straight down. Of course Reece would do anything to support them, but it would ruin his future. The further he is building for himself, for them. It was just the wrong time.
The decision to keep a baby, prepare for a future, a whole life, it's a big thing. An overwhelming thing. Especially for a sixteen year old girl.
She should tell Reece straight away, he has every right to know. Maybe they could figure this out together. But at the risk of his future and everything he worked for? Could Mia even do this? Could she be what this baby needed?
Mis already felt like a waste of space. She wasn't doing the best in school, despite how smart she was. The only thing she really cared about was being pretty and popular and being liked. Deep down she thought about how anyone could really like her, even her parents didn't. That's where her need for perfection came from. Having to convince herself she needed to be on point with everything so people wouldn't leave like her father did.
MIA never talked about her father, most thought he was dead. Sometimes she would tell herself he was dead. At least then she would have something to blame other than her for his absence.
She didn't exactly get lucky with her parents, but neither did Reece and Autumn. Although they had it worse, right? No one knew about how her mother treated her. To everyone else she was perfect, a woman trying to do it all after her husband left.
Truthfully, Mia was terrified of turning out like her mother. She promised herself, when the time came, she would do her best for her babies. But would that be enough?
The thoughts tormented the teens mind, back and forth for hours of what she would do. Eventually, she picked up her phone and searched for the contact.
