It had been several years since he had to track someone down this intensely, but Turk's skills were far from rusty. He was very familiar with how Slavers travel because he was one for the longest time before his life changed.
After living as a slave for years, he became one of the slavers before reaching manhood. It was then the king of Teslianna chose him to tend to his horses.
In a few more years, he was elevated to combat instructor and then private instructor to the crown prince from Trevillia. Even while serving the king of Teslianna, Turk never knew he would ever give his life to serve anyone.
Meeting Prince Zachary is what changed his mind. The boy had a vision, unlike most monarchs. It was a vision that would bring a new prosperous age for all the kingdoms.
However, he was aware that power corrupts easily, hence his decision to stay and advise the young prince. With his guidance, he hoped the prince would become a leader the people of Trevillia needed.
Watching the young prince grow more compassionate was a blessing for him. Even now he was selflessly sent on this mission to find Cora's brother. Turk continued his journey without stopping his horse.
It had been many days since Damiel was taken, according to his investigation. This meant the slavers must have taken him to the slavers' town.
In every slaver town he visited, there was an auction every few days and if he didn't hurry, he would lose Damiel. Turk was prepared to hunt him down and take him from even his buyer as long as he was not branded by then.
As he got closer to Slaver town in the Sars, his horse slowed down to walking speed. The Slavers had made a town for themselves here because the people of the Sars were heavy on farming.
It was the state with the most fertile lands of Trevillia. The North preferred to rare domestic animals and the South tilled the soil. they never agreed on anything but both needed manpower to thrive.
The Sars had only one slaver town despite having two representatives in the king's court. Most of the farmers needed unpaid labour, so they came here to buy slaves for work.
Turk had only been to this slaver town once for an exchange before his new life and he remembered hating every minute of it. He was quick to notice something different about the town this time.
From the entrance of the town, Turk noticed a few soldiers dressed in regular slavers' clothes. He could tell by their posture and mannerisms that they were trained fighters.
Because of the distrust between the northerners and southerners, fighters were not allowed in slaver town. The slaver paid for their private security, which Turk looked forward to seeing.
Yet, the further he went, the more of these people he saw eating and laughing together under the sunlight. What were soldiers doing in slavers' town?
It did not make sense and Turk thought it wise to tread carefully. He planned on sneaking in to find Damiel and taking him out without getting discovered. With this new development, it would be nearly impossible.
"Boy!" Turk called for the stable boy as soon as he arrived.
A young lad almost half his height and probably around 12 years of age ran to him and took the reins of his horse. Turk climbed down from his horse and reached into his pocket before tossing a coin to the boy.
The boy caught the coin with ease in his free hand while walking the horse into an empty stable stall.
"You got time for an extra coin?" Turk asked.
"It depends," the boy smirked. "How much are you paying?"
Turk looked around to see if anyone was watching before he pulled out another copper coin to hand to the boy. The boy smiled from ear to ear before accepting the coin.
