A loud clang of iron hitting iron woke him up from his trance and his body jerked from the cage. Damiel looked around, his ears flooded with shouts of people selling things.
He realised they were at a market, and it almost reminded him of Ovalon. Before he could take in more visuals on the market, a large pair of hair lifted him out of the cage.
Unable to resist, Damiel allowed the man to pull him down from the carriage cage.
"Get in," the man said, pointing to a smaller iron cage on his right.
The height of this cage was almost half of the cage that brought them to this strange place. He followed the other kids to avoid getting in trouble as they lowered their bodies into the cage.
Not only did the cage reek of piss and something unfamiliar, it was too small for them to stand in. The big man in charge stomped his boots, intimidating them to fit their numbers inside the cage.
They lowered their bodies and sat down on the sticky floor of the cage. When all the children were transferred, the man locked the gate and walked off to talk to another marketer.
Damiel was unconscious throughout the rest of the journey to this market. Since it was his first time outside Ovalon in his young life, he had no clue where he was.
From the looks on the faces of the other children, they had given up hope of getting saved. He wondered if they were also taken away to pay for the debt owed by their family.
Damiel found a small corner for himself, doing his best not to inhale the foul stench. In a little while, he would adapt to it until he was transferred somewhere else.
While he slept, he dreamt of strange things and he wished his sister was here so he could tell her about them. Things were different after his sister disappeared, but he knew she was out there somewhere.
Although his dreams were terrifying, Damiel couldn't help but fall into more slumber. His body was weak, lacking food and water, and the only thing he could do to conserve energy and fight the stomach bites was sleep.
Even after sleeping on the way here, Daniel's body was quick to take the bait. The other children sat still under watch by the man who locked them in the cage.
They stared out the iron gates as if expecting a saviour, but Damiel was too tired to care. He closed his eyes, fading his hearing away from the noise of the market in an attempt to get some sleep.
Any amount of sleep was good enough for him. He knew the dreams would come, but he preferred dreaming of mysteries of remaining conscious in an animal litter cage.
As soon as his vision faded from the physical world, darkness engulfed his mind, leaving him blank and empty. No sound, no thought, no feelings whatsoever.
In a short while, he began to feel his limbs. And he moved then, starting with his leg. They landed on solid ground, but his feet could feel something warm and squishy underneath them.
He looked down subconsciously, and his vision returned.
"ARGHHHH!!!" Damiel screamed as soon as he noticed an injured human body under his bare feet.
He stumbled backwards, but he tripped on the body's arms, falling into an injured body. Still conscious, this owner of the body groaned in pain. Damiel's breath quickened, and she tried to roll away as far as he could.
He rolled until his body met he felt the rough earth on his skin. Damiel let out a sigh of relief as he pushed his body off the ground. He could feel the earth shake beneath him, but not strong enough to bring him down.
