Getting Niall to my car was the easy part, he just followed me the whole way. However, getting him in the car and from there forward was where the challenge stepped in. Who knew someone, a neko at that, could be so scared and stubborn at the same time? Although, who am I to talk, I've never encountered a neko before. Until tonight that is.

We made it up to my car, but as soon as I opened the passenger seat door he gave a low meow and cowered back. He refused to come any closer, he shrank back every time I even tried to motion him towards the car. I didn't dare pick him up either, I didn't want him to attack me, plus I really wasn't strong enough to lift a man who actually stood taller than me when standing upright. The only way I could even get him to move toward the car was by placing another bread piece on the passenger seat, and as soon as he noticed it, he forgot all about the car and came right up to it. He jumped right onto the seat before cupping it in his hands and trying messily to stuff the whole piece into his mouth.

As soon as he was in and caught up eating the bread, I closed the door behind him as gently as I could. He didn't seem to notice, but as I started to walk to the other side of the car I heard a loud wail from inside. I looked through the windshield and saw him jumping around frantically and clawing at the passenger window. I hurried over to the driver's side and got in without thinking. I rubbed my palms on his back and tried to calm him down, he turned and looked at me like he was going to attack. I quickly moved my palms away from him, luckily I noticed he dropped his bread. I grabbed it and tried to offer it to him again. Half of it was wet and covered with his slobber. Gross. After a few seconds that felt like an eternity, he saw it and settled slightly, took it in his hands, and started to munch on it again.

The rest of the trip home was a hassle. Even starting the car caused a ruckus. I had to drive slowly and it seemed to help slightly, but it still took a lot of patience, slow driving, and more cinnamon bread to keep him from tearing up everything around him. He didn't really hurt me, but he for sure left a few holes in the blanket I draped over the seat a while ago. I'll have to replace that. That was probably the longest three and a half mile drive I have ever driven, and the fact I was driving slow enough to get pulled over really wasn't helping.

Anyhow, I was really preparing myself for the real challenge: Telling my mom. I had a very strong feeling she would not be easy to convince to let me keep him.

I pulled up to my house, used the remote to open the garage door, and slowly pulled in; not that I wasn't already driving slow anyway. I parked and pulled the key from the ignition, then I looked at Niall. He noticed and looked back at me.

"We're home." I said softly. His blank eyes never left mine, meaning he, of course, still didn't understand me. I turned away and unstrapped my seatbelt. I closed the garage door with the remote before I opened my door, then I made my way to the other side of the car. I walked up to Niall's door and gently opened it, careful not to startle him. He just watched me the whole time.

"Come on." I spoke softly and motioned to him with my fingers. "Come on."

He looked at my hand and back up at me, then he prepped himself and got out, landing in his crouching position with ease. He took a few steps away from the door and turned back to look up at me. I closed the passenger door, tucked what was left of the bread loaf in my hand, and started to walk around the car again. Niall, not knowing his new surroundings, followed quickly behind me. He seemed to have gotten use to me pretty quickly. I guess the dog won't bite the hand that feeds it. Or cat, in this case.

I walked up the garage door steps and stopped at the door. Time to face my mother. I looked down at Niall, who was looking up and down at the door. He looked up at me; I crouched down to meet his eye level.
