Niall's POV:
Angel fell limp into my arms.
"Angel." I whispered, pulling her up against my chest. Someone put their hand on my shoulder.
"What happened?" Liam asked.
I didn't answer, I just stared at Angel. I wasn't entirely sure what happened myself. First, I was sure she was shot, but there was no blood on her, then I assumed she was fine when she kept running. I thought maybe the gunshot caught her off guard and she tripped, or something, but after we passed through security and almost reached the plane, she completely collapsed, insisting that I should go without her. She didn't look so good, I guess she really wasn't okay. While I knew her intensions were good, there was no way I was going to leave her after everything she had done for me. I stayed with her until Liam came and carried her onto the plane just a few seconds later.
Now, here we were, sitting right next to each other on the private jet, and Angel completely unconscious in my arms.
"Is she okay?" Zayn asked from the seat in front of me.
I still didn't answer. I pushed Angel's hair away from her face so I could feel her forehead, then her cheeks. She was warm, but only normal temperature warm. I looked at her up and down trying to figure it out.
"What's in her hand?" Harry was kneeling in the isle on the floor next to me.
Her hand? As gently as I could, I laid her across my lap. Liam reached over the seat to keep her from falling, and I glanced at her hands. Sure enough, her left hand was loosely gripping something. Something metallic and rather shiny, it looked like. I carefully pulled her arm up and held her wrist while I used my free hand to gently pull back her fingers.
It took me a second before I realized what it was.
In the palm of her hand rested a small dart, probably about two and a half inches long. The needle point and tail end was silver, and the center was clear and just over half full of a transparent blue liquid.
Like a slap to the face, I remembered being stabbed with needles filled with that same colored liquid. It happened multiple times, more than I could think about counting right now, when I was contained in some sort of... lab? Cornered in a cell? Strapped to an operation table? The visions were still fuzzy. I shook my head at the sudden memories, and then I remembered, the blue stuff was used to put me to sleep for a few hours... I think? I hope. Please don't be poison.
"What is it?" Louis asked from over Zayn's shoulder. "And how did she-"
"It has to be what she was shot with." I cut him off. Everyone looked at me. "Someone with a gun followed us through the airport. Looks like he really did shoot her."
"That's what the whole commotion was about." Paul came up to us and stood behind Harry. "These two were attacked, that's why we were told to prepare for immediate take-off."
Everyone looked at me with wide eyes.
"Are you alright?" Louis asked.
I looked back at Angel, and everyone glanced at Louis. He cleared his throat.
"Right, dumb question. Sorry." he responded.
"But is she okay?" Harry looked at Angel from over my shoulder.
I looked at the dart in her hand, just before Harry picked it up to look at it. He turned it this way and that before he looked back at Angel. Her head rested against my shoulder. I was sure I recognized the liquid in that dart. That doctor definitely did something with it to me, but I couldn't remember for certain. I was sure it was sleeping serum or something, but I prayed in my mind it wasn't poison.
