Together Forever- A Nick and Charlie Story

Summer Annabel Nelson

Charlie's Pov–
I lay awake in my bed. I couldn't sleep knowing that the newest member of our little family was going to be arriving any day now. Nick on the other hand has been asleep for hours. I look over at my sleeping husband and reach over to play with his hair. I then reach over to check my phone to make sure I hadn't missed any calls from our surrogate. The time read 3:08am. No missed calls. I sighed and placed my phone back on my bedside table. I sit up in my bed for a moment, just staring at the wall. Suddenly, the phone rings. It's our surrogate, Elyce.

"Hello? Elyce? Is that you?" I'm talking so fast i'm not sure if she can even understand me.

"Hi Charlie, yes it's me." She says.

I stay silent, not knowing if this is going to be good news or bad news.

Elyce finally breaks the silence. "Shes here"

I jump out of bed with excitement, probably waking Nick up in the process. I tell Elyce that we will at the hospital as soon as we can. I jump on top of Nick who is still half asleep. "Nick, wake up we have to go to the hospital" I exclaim. "What happened? Is everyone okay? Why hospital? Who's hurt?" Nick says, eyes half open but still panicking. "No one's hurt silly. We have to go to the hospital because Elyce just had our baby!" I can't contain my excitement much longer. It looked like someone had flicked Nick on with a switch. His eyes opened wide immediately and he jumped up to hug me. "I'll call my mum to look after Colton and Hazel so we can go" Nick says, scrambling to find his phone in the dark.

Nick called Sarah and asked if we could drop the kids off at her house on the way to the hospital. She of course said yes and was over the moon excited to meet her new grand baby. Now for the hard part, getting the kids out of bed without a meltdown. Our plan was to pack their stuff before waking them up so we could just put them straight in the car. We decided that I would pack Colton's bag and Nick would pack Hazel's. Once we had the kids stuff plus the new baby's stuff we packed it all in the car. Now we have the pleasure of waking up a three year old and an eight year old at 3am. Nick decided he would wake up Colton so he could carry him out to the car and I would try my very best to pick Hazel up out of bed without waking her.

We managed to get both kids into the car without any meltdowns. We got to Nicks mums and carried the kids straight inside and tucked them into bed together in Sarah's spare room. We then rushed to the hospital as quick as we could. When we finally got to Elyces hospital room we were both out of breath but when we layed our eyes on our beautiful baby girl we instantly forgot about everything around us. She had the most beautiful long eyelashes and a luscious head of brown curly hair. She looks just like our Hazel. The kids both knew they were getting a baby sister but I'm not sure if Hazel completely understands. Anyway that's a bridge we will have to cross when we get there. As I hold my precious baby girl I can feel tears welling in my eyes. I have a family of 5. I can hardly believe it.

Nicks Pov–
As I'm sitting next to Charlie who is holding our precious newborn baby, I realise we haven't thought of a name for her yet. After discussing names for a while we finally landed on the name Summer. Charlie and I's favourite place is our beach. We had our first date on that beach, we got engaged on that beach and we got married on that beach so the name Summer just felt perfect. Colton, Hazel and Summer. It sounds good to me. Now we're deciding on a middle name. Colton's middle name is Luke as my name is Nicholas Luke Nelson, Then Hazels middle name is Franchesca because Charlie's middle name is Francis and we thought it sounded perfectly similar. We eventually decided on the name Summer Annabel as Annabel is Charlie's older sister Tori's middle name. Our Summer Annabel Nelson. "She's perfect. " I say while rubbing the hair on her head. My hand is around Charlie's waist as we sit there admiring our beautiful girl with tears in our eyes.

I looked over at the clock and realised that we had just been sitting and staring at our newborn daughter for hours. It was now 6:10am. The doctor came in and said that we could take her home today so Charlie and I were ecstatic. We got her dressed in the cutest little pink onesie and made her a bottle while we let Elyce rest. I packed all of Summers stuff while Charlie fed her a bottle. We thanked Elyce for everything and we set off to the car. I strapped Summer into her car seat carefully. I drove while Charlie decided to sit in the back with Summer. He gets quite nervous with things like this. As I'm driving, I look in my rear view mirror at my youngest daughter and my husband. They look so alike already. I think about how lucky I am to be able to have such an amazing little family. My family of 5. I can't wait for Colton and Hazel to meet their new little sister. I'm sure they're gonna love her as much as we do already. Our Summer Annabel Nelson <3
